Thumbs up Child's Play Charity 2006

Child's Play is a charity program run by the folks over at Penny Arcade which brings toys, movies, and games to children who are currently at various hospitals (focusing on those which specialize in the treatment of children). Every year, I donate to my local Children's Hospital through this program by making a simple purchase from their Amazon Wishlist. There is no overhead fee, so all donations go straight to the kids.

I ask, that if you can, try and make a purchase. Most of us have favorable memories of being a child, but these kids are in pain - something a child should never have to suffer. If providing them gifts for the holidays will ease their suffering in the least bit, then it is worth every penny. Last year the program raised $605,000 in donations, and this year we hope to break that record.

Please click on the link below, and select the hospital closest to you to make a donation (currently in the US, Canada, England, Australia, and Egypt). If you can't find one, they also accept direct donations via PayPal or mail. Every little bit helps, so please do help. Even if that means - dare I say it - holding off on a Blu-ray movie purchase until next year.

I just wanted to give people an update on this cause, which may convince you to shell out a few dollars for this program. With less than 2 weeks left, they have crossed the $500,000 mark. That's right, half a millions dollars in donations, and there is still time left to make an impact.

These hospitals use many things like Play-doh and crayons which have to be thrown away after a single use in order to prevent diseases from spreading. A simple $5 Paypal donation will really help them replenish their stocks. Dig deep and help these sick kids.
