I dont think we need to rely on one movie bringing in ground breaking numbers. I feel that the multiple quality movies coming out, their sales in parallel will keep blu in the lead.

I would agree with POTC 3 as being one of the top sellers, has a very broad fan base, Kids think it's great, dads think it's funny & the women just wanna see J Depp in hd ...... Stuff for everybody

Only big day-and-date titles have a chance. Titles like Ratatouille, Spidey 3, Pirates 3, Harry Potter 5, Simpsons, and Die Hard 4. I doubt if anything else could break 100,000 in one week. Maybe Rush Hour 3 and Superbad but they are a major stretch.

Catalog titles, at this point, won't break 100,000. Not even Close Encounters.

I think out of these that you mentioned....with the exception of ratatouille, all will have a very significant chance of meeting TF numbers!
It didn't dawn on me how many blockbusters we still have lurking in the shadows!!
Spidey, Pirates, and Die Hard are going to gross exceptionally well!!!

I reckon Ratatouille will be a 'suprise' hit.

It's only just been released in many parts of Europe, so it's current box office take is really only the North American market.

I could see this selling 100k.

Hard to say.. they might beat it just cause its blu-ray and we get better numbers.. but I'm not sure about the films..

PotC3 was ok.. but I don't know if it will sell as well as we'd like (I have no idea, can go either way in my book)
Ratatouille was great, but how many are going to buy it? Too many ppl think its a "kiddie" film.. (grrrr)
Spidey 3 will have the best chance, but again it was not as good as the first one, or the second.
Simspons, on HD... doubtful it will sell that well.
Superbad, I suppose it will sell well, but once again, could go either way in my book.

I think we will still beat them, but we will have to wait and see.

I am a huge blu supporter and would love see every movie sold on blu kick Paramount ass, but I only see POTC 3 as the only movie beating Transformers. I Think Spiderman 3, Cars, and The Simpsons will have great showings but not surpass Transformers.

How I wish and pray that I am dead wrong!

I think Spidey will do well because 1 and 2 are coming out and the trilogy and superbad was the best and everyone liked it so those will do well.

You guys are COMPLETELY underestimating 3 major BD Exclusives this holiday season:

Ratatouille
Hairspray
High School Musical 2

Trust me, all 3 are going to do VERY, VERY well.

True. Spidey 1 and 3 are out and I think they will do well.

Hairspray should also.
Ratatouille I hope will but I am not sure.. too many "adults" think it's a "kid" film.
I do not think High School Musical 2 will.... sure lots of people saw it on cable.. but that was cable.. and Disney Channel is not in Hi Def is it? (mine isn't)
Don't forget Cars is also coming out. I think that will sell well too!

Die Hard 4 definitely has the potential to be a huge seller.

The real important aspect is that the total of these movies combined will change the SI and YTD #'s more drastically than any other handful of releases has. By the end of this year sales dominance should be staggering.

I don't think Superbad has a chance. Knocked Up only sold 15% of what Transformers did it's first week, and Superbad isn't going to sell much better than KU.

Add in the 2-1 that Blu-Ray tends to get, tack on another 20% or so just because, and you'd still only have 50% of Transformers.

I feel that all of these, combined with Cars, Warner, Fox, and Starz/Anchor Bay will easily outsell Transformers. Don't forget we will also be getting the Harry Potter series, Blade Runner, the Ocean's Series, and Die Hard series. It won't be just one of these titles but a combination IMO. Although High School Musical 2 is a tween movie, with as big a following as it has it does have the potential to sell many copys. Don't forget about the Disney Blu Ray Mall Tour. With Christmas coming up, and lots of familys at these malls I'm sure the kids will have an impact on what the parents get them.
