Default fyi on FYE

Just got back from my local FYE and found something interesting. They will be doing some specials on blu-ray next month for christmas shopping. This came from the store managaer. He stated that the movies are not moving like they thought they would and that chain would love to get behind one. They would like to support blu since they sell PS3s. If you have a chance go into one of the FYE or one of their other stores (coconuts, suncoast) and try and buy a blu movie. If you are lucky they will not have moved their sale price stickers and pick up a couple of movies for about $20. I got click and talledega nights for a total of $40.

they marked a bunch down to 14.99 during the BOGO a week or two ago, so i definitely bought one. the blu section at mine definitely looked picked over. only one or two of each title. then again, maybe thats all they had ordered?

but they really really should NOT sell movies at the damn MSRP! I mean Best Buy prices suck a little with their tiny discount, but at least its something!

They need to get behind HDM before they can sell it. My local store sells almost all used. The only new title they have is FF2. So if they will not stock the titles how can they be bought. I have told my local Mgr that very thing.

Maybe they would sell more BDs if they didn't sell everything at list price.

All BDs there are $29.99-$39.99.

Seems to vary quite regionally. I was at the FYE in DC and was quite impressed with the prices, but not the selection (didn't have any thing I wanted). Most of them were below MSRP and a few for $14.95...

I did get some great 14.99 deals there. You are dead on about those regular prices. What are they thinking.

Suncoast is the only movie only store around here. I have purchased a few DVDs many many years ago from them, but now most everything is nearly list price. Seems like they sell more collectibles and toys than movies. The one nearest me closed and I am afraid the other might not survive either. Why buy from them when you can find it $10 to $15 cheaper elsewhere.

The Suncoast store here actually has the best selection of BD's. I'm not saying that Best Buy here has a poor selection. It's very good. Sometimes they don't get the weeks new catalog releases though. Suncoast generally gets a few copies of everything, but you're right about their pricing. It's really bad. I paid for their "Backstage Pass" which gets you 10% off of everything, and when you combine that with titles being discounted during the first week of release it works out to be as good or better than Best Buy. When Suncoast is asking full price though, look out. Fox titles are $40

My local FYE discontinued selling games due to weak sales. They also don't carry blu-ray movies... as for Suncoast, that went out of business here like 2 years ago. I get most of my blu-ray movies from Best Buy cause I don't like waiting for shipping.

Those Blu-ray specials are just going to be in the Black Friday ad (along with HDVD titles). They aren't pushing anything or doing specials because of lack of sales in any one format.

FYE has always sucked for prices, period - unless they are offering a rebate. Some of their after-rebate prices are damn-near impossible to beat.

I will keep an eye out for future promos, though, since I can get 10% of with my backstage pass (sounds more important than it really is, huh? ).

I agree with the outragous prices they charge. Usually if you want a cheap BD go to walmart. the ones near my house are usually about 25 dollars. I just happened to be looking at a job for my company when I stumbled into this one. The FYE by my home does not even carry them. Since FYE owns suncoast, they shut the one down in my mall to avoid the high rent. That is usually why they are more expensive (stupid mall rent raises margins).

You can sometimes go in there and find prices that have not been marked back up and get some BD cheap. Like I stated in my OP, talledega nights and click for 19.99 each. that is 10 less than my best buy.

the FYE in my town only sells used Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies...makes no sense to me, they charge the same amount for the used ones as new ones in other B&M stores...

These stores like FYE want you to become a member so you can get music/movies for the same prices that other stores have without becoming a member.

Their prices are usually insane, but I love that I can sell my standard dvd's and upgrade to BD. I just got Underworld (the first one) and Bram Stoker's Dracula for $14.99 each and The Shining for $19.99, all new. It definately varier by store because I have 5 around me and only one of them sells new BD's, the rest sell only used.
