Default Scary movies and candy

i need to gather a list of a few movies to watch halloween night (tacky i know but the girlfriend wants to do it). OBVIOUSLY i'd prefer them to be blu rays so it gives me a reason to go out and get more but it doesn't necessarily need to be. keep in mind im not a huge fan of the ancient stuff in black and white
thx for the help+

Being a huge fan of the classic films and Blu-Ray is a bad match, especially since Universal is HD-DVD. Really doesn't matter though since nothing has been released on either format...

For Best of Blu-Ray, I recommend Dawn of the Dead and 28 Weeks Later - some older 70's zombies, then updated ones in a movie better (especially in Blu-Ray) than the original.

Getting away from the gore and Blu-Ray, I'd suggest Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstien. It offers the old time scrares of having all the classic monsters (Frankie, Dracula, and Wolfman) while adding in a few laughs. I watch it every year.

Don't go for gore, m'self--Halloween is for swirling leaves and nameless creepiness:

In our house, Halloween night is a ritual of "Curse of the Demon"* and "Something Wicked This Way Comes".
Both on SD, but hey, trust me.

(* - "Ancient" B/W?...Yeah, pal. Sure. Youuuu just keep telling yourself that. )

I gotta say i have never seen Halloween or DAwn of the dead (original) before, i love horror movies and am sicked and tired of the crap they put out nowadays. But..... Those two movies above, are VERy well made. The definitly dont make movies like they used to. Its just something about no cgi, no special effect no big sound effects, just plain simple filming, it makes it seem more real in a way. By far those are on the top of scary movies

If you haven't seen it before, then Vacancy can definitly keep you on the edge of your seat. I don't want to give any spoilers, but will say that it is not a gore-fest, even though it looks like it has the makings of one when you first start watching it. I enjoyed it, but would recommend giving it a rent unless you are a huge horror fan. Hey, it has Kate Beckinsale too

Anyone here ever see "Murder By Death"? Great movie for Halloween. It's not exactly scary, but it does have a very spooky setting/ ambiance and it is a fantastic movie. It is SD only, but my Blu-ray upscales it and it looks very nice on my 1080p LCD.
