Here are a few titles I'd like to see on the Blu Ray format :
Sunset Boulevard , The Bride Of Frankenstein , Singin In The Rain , The Sound Of Music , Yellow Submarine , Myra Breckenridge , Whatever Happened To Baby Jane , I'm No Angel , Citizen Kane , Double Indemnity Are any of the above titles currently planned for Blu Ray? It irritates me/pisses me off that Warner Bros already releases it's classic back catalogue titles in Region Free versions but Disney do not!! |

I doubt we will ever see Yellow Submarine. It was a poor DVD. Maybe when the new film is released in 3 years it might make an appearence.
I would also like to see: The Bride Of Frankenstein , Singin In The Rain plus Rebel without a Cause Once Upon a Time in America (deluxe directors cut edition) |

Most of the older films I'm desperate for on blu-ray are those with seriously flawed DVD transfers. The majority of them are from MGM, with a few from Universal thrown in for bad measure.
Non-anamorphic widescreen: 12 Angry Men Blood Simple Elmer Gantry Kiss Me Deadly Sweet Smell of Success Hazy image / compression artifacts: The Apartment - saw restored version in cinema, a must for BD Johnny Guitar - would be mesmerizing if restored and transfered properly Radio Days - most Woody Allen DVDs are poor, but this is the worst Top Hat - DNR'd to death, motion looks weird too Touch of Evil - also cropped from Academy Ratio to 16:9 I'd love to see releases from Billy Wilder, Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock, Nicholas Ray, Woody Allen (mostly 1970s and '80s stuff), Jim Jarmusch (some French releases but they have forced subtitles), Jaques Tati (Criterion's Playtime is glorious), John Huston... Ohh I just want to replace my entire DVD collection with well-transfered BD versions. It's a thrill to see those older films presented with the film-grain texture left intact. I just wish I could replace my entire DVD collection with well-transfered BDs right now. |
