i know the PS3 has usb ports, and i'd like know if you can plug in a mouse and keyboard and use that to play first person shooters?
if not, is there anything else? FPS on the controller, isn't really my cup of tea. thanks i found this : http://www.ps3focus.com/archives/120 it's really outdated. justwanted to confirm Last edited by sohjonn; 10-28-2007 at 02:02 PM. |

Well I know there is a keyboard because in my future shop flyer the ps3 comes with two games a collectors case and a keyboard, so there is a keyboard. But I don't know about a mouse.

Yes, there is a keyboard. Actually, right now they have two keyboards. You can find both on Amazon. I have the first one they came out with, which has a laptop style mouse on the keyboard itself. It's nice if you're going to use the internet a lot through your PS3.

I loaded yellow dog on my PS3 and I was able to use my wireless microsoft keyboard and mouse that connect through the USB port. I also found out that the keyboard and mouse was able to control the XMB. I did not try it with any games though.

This is the combo set that I used.
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mo...s.aspx?pid=067 You can find it in most B&M stores. |

has anyone tried using it for RFOM or any FPS games. COD4 is coming out soon. and using a controller for a FPS is not in my cup of tea.

crackin just summed it up. That's the only solution for games on the PS3.
You can connect a keyboard and mouse to the PS3, but its functionality is only limited to the internet browser/PS store, etc. You cannot use them in games. If you get the splitfish let us know how you like it. I've had my eyes on it for awhile, but yet to take the plunge. |

You can download a utility from their website that can update its firmware, change button mapping, and change button sensitivity (since it's all analog). It is a little bit on the high end in terms of pricing, but since my aim is so poor with the SIXAXIS it was worth it for me. Its not wireless, which kinda stinks because the cable can occasionally get in the way. However, the cable is very long and the mouse/controller are not attached to the mouse pad. My rating: Cost: 3/5 Physical quality: 4/5 Usefulness: 3.5/5 (depending on what games you play) |

Last time I checked they were working on a wireless version as well...but it was due 4-6 months after the wired one. Thanks for your impressions.

For almost a year now I have been using a Rocketfish Bluetooth Keyboard/mouth combo. I got that combo at the Best Buy for around $50. It comes with a little BT USB adapter that looks like a small Flash Drive, btw has a piano black plastic body that matches PS3 perfectly.

If you mean the newer Aluminium keyboard..
YES! Before System Software 2.00 the PS3 would detect it as an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard but after selecting it to pair there was a long wait and eventually an error. Now you get the code pairing screen, it gives you a numeric code to type in and press enter. SUCCESS! ![]() Now if only they put a little button on the keyboard so you could quickly switch paired machines (PC/Mac/PS3 etc). |

Don't need anything "specially made" for the PS3--
I plugged my plain ol' Apple USB keyboard in, and it worked fine on the first try...Any regular storebought keyboard with a USB I/O, or any wireless keyboard with a Bluetooth connection. (Although wireless, like the Movie Remote, has to be entered through the Accessories setting.) |
