Which one to get?
The UK one or the US Screwhead Edition?
I don't care about extras so it's really a question of PQ and AQ.

You got an all region player?

The UK release is region B locked.

The UK Release is very good in the A/V Department. I would say that it has a much better transfer than the US Release. Also, it has the Directors Cut of the film as an extra. Only in Standard Def but what the hell

The U.S. transfer is a below-average effort for Blu-ray. Universal just dusted off whatever HD-master they had, with no real improvement to the elements.

The UK version has much better PQ than the US version. I'd recommend you go with the UK.

I didn't dig the Universal Blu-ray. I can just about tolerate the HD DVD (which I bought again) but the additional tinkering to the US Blu pushed it past my tolerance for EE.

Unfortunately, the disc is indeed Region-B "locked". With other words, you would need a Region-Free or native Region-B player in order to access the disc's content.

I love DVDbeaver as much as the next person, considering they often are the first reviews up on the Internet of a film. But their analysis is often flawed in the areas of A/V quality. We will agree to disagree.

Actually, the HD-DVD version of AOD is better than the Blu-ray version. The only difference - The HD-DVD has much less EE.

Look at the atrociousness of the Blu-ray compared to the superior HD-DVD release here:

OP- If you have it on HD-DVD, stick to that release. It's the best VQ you will get watching AOD. However, I must say, the lossless on the Blu-ray is tempting, but the DD+ track on the HD-DVD will suffice.

The US version by Universal looked fine to me. It was a definite upgrade over previous DVD releases of this film.

Same thread, but screenshots of the UK version, which, IMO, looks better than the HD-DVD and US Blu-ray.
