Default Mounting question

How high should I mount my TV? Basically what I'm asking is what is the generally accepted height that a Television should be mounted? It's a 47" so what I'm looking for is how high to the bottom or center of the mounting bracket (the wall part) should it be.

Follow these steps:

1. Find Seat
2. Sit Down
3. Measure from floor to eyes

That is the height that the middle of your screen should be at, or at the very least the bottom of the screen.

I've always taken the view that your eyes should be about level with the middle of the screen when you are in your normal position for watching it (i.e. sitting on the sofa).

I mounted mine a little higher than most, because I watch from a recliner. Most of the people I know usually mount theirs where the center of the screen is at eye level.

Keep in mind that not all sofas are created equal - you don't want to have the bottom of the screen a foot off the floor because you happen to have a super-low sofa. If you will have an entertainment cabinet in front and below the TV, I suggest you measure from the floor to the top of it, then allow for the height of a center speaker and that height should be more or less the bottom of the TV. In my case, I believe the bottom of my TV turned out to be about 42" to 44" inches. When you go to the movies, most of the time you watch a movie looking up a bit. (I happen to like sitting way in front ). Good luck.

using a cardboard cutout the exact size of my TV and someone holding it worked the best for me... I always thought those blanket charts for mounting height and viewing distance are pretty worthless..

Optimum viewing angle for the human eye is between 0 degrees (horizontal) and 30 degrees down. Just remember when you're in comfy furniture your head my be tilted upwards a bit.

I like my displays lower than most people, and I HATE it when people put their TV up at the ceiling.

I'd go as low as possible without having the view obstructed by furniture or speakers etc.

The bottom of my TV screen is at 43". I probably would have gone a bit lower, but my center speaker prohibited it.

I actually centered mine (height wise) to look even with the wall and the stand, and simply 'tilted' it to be in direct line of sight with my seating/eye level.

...of course if you don't have a tilting wall mount, then that would not work.

Maybe I should have put it before this is the mount I got since it will be going on a angled wall.
