Default paulyg's theater pics

Finally got the theater done enough to post more pics. It's amazing how the project slowed down once the seats were in . I got most of my ideas from members of this site. I hope others will be inspired by mine. I have come to the conclusion that it will never be "finished". I will always be upgrading and tweeking my theater.

For some reason I can't see the last 6-7 pictures in the gallery. I can see the few up to the concession stand, then the rest are blank .....so I would rather not rate you until I can see all of them......this is very strange....

Looks like a lot of hard work went into that room. Great job. Left a comment and rating in your gallery.

OK, I can see them now (just strange I couldn't before), and it is a 10 all the way. I love the wood work around the whole room. Very classy look, and I dig the furniture and AV rack you got set-up out of view. You did a great job!

I'm not sure why they're not coming up for you. If anyone else is having the same problem, please let me know.

Looks like the flooring is just carpet over concrete correct?

I have always read that concrete sucks the life out of subs. I'm planning on getting my room done and I'm in a dilemma as to what to do for flooring. I want it open to the adjacent room which will have polished concrete floors, so putting down carpet over plywood isn't an option as it'd make for an awkward height transition.

So two possible solutions are to build a riser for the entire room (8" step up) out of wood (but then I'd only have a 7' ceiling height), or perhaps just put the couch on a wood riser with the sub behind it.

Thoughts?

Thank you. My Dad helped with the elec. and my Friend Terry did the finish wood work. It helps he owns his own custom wood shop. What he did in my theater was nothing compared to some of the custom entertainmet centers i've seen him build If anyone in the Chicagoland area is looking for someone to do custom wood work, send me a pm and i'll give you his information. Most of my ideas came from members here. Great site

Paulyg, your room is progressing really well, and I can tell it will be a great dedicated home theater room when you're finished. Hang in there, and don't get discouraged over the amount of time the project takes. It's better to take your time and do it right. I can tell you've put a lot of thought into the design of the room.

Great job! I love the concession stand!

My first row is on concrete and there is a big difference between the two rows. One sub is on concrete and one is on the platform. The second row dosen't need butt kickers but i might put them in the fist row. If i had to do it again, I would have put a subfloor in the front. Don't get me wrong though, it still sounds amazing

Thank you for the words of encouragement. There will be cabinets and a counter top where table is now. My wood working buddy is building me a real candy counter with a glass top.

Love the yamaha setup, I have the same setup in 7.1. Are you front speakers the 777's or the 555's? If they are the 777's you should check out the 555's as your surround sound speakers! Congrat's on a nice setup!

paulyg: Thanks for stopping by my gallery and the rating. Just posted the folliwing in your gallery, but found you have a thread, which is much better place to talk. So I will repeat here:

I've read great reviews about Yamaha speakers, esp. the NS models. How would you describe their sound?

As you could see, I have hand-made open back shelves for equipments. Right now I just use wood pannel painted white to cover the back of the empty shelves. What kind of panels are you thinking about? Panels for the back or the front (like the custom-cut face plate)?

Thanks.

Your setup is incredible and well deserving a 10. I love these speakers! I have had them for 5 years and have never even thought about changing them. I believe I paid under $125 each for the ns-555. I got them as a close out from BB. I read alot of reveiws about them and had to hear them. The closest BB to me that had them was almost two hours away. My father-in-law and two of my friends have since copied my exact speaker set up.

I plan on making custom cut face plates for the fronts. I have seen others on this site with them. I'll probably make them out of 16ga. sheet metal and have them powder coated. I can laser cut them at work for free I'll post pics when its done, but it might be a while.

I've read Yamaha speakers won speaker shootout against many well known and much more expensive brands. They are probably the best kept secret.

I know exactly what you plan to do then. Was thinking about the same thing but decided not to try. Laser cutting will make it so much easier and so much more precise. It will be one cool looking rack. Will be watching for updates and pictures. Thanks.
