Default What order should I watch the Hannibal movies?

There are four right? Hannibal, Hannibal Rising, Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs.

Which order should I watch them as I've been told the plot jumps around. Thanks

The chronological order of them is Hannibal Rising, Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal.

Watch Silence of the Lambs first, since it came out first, and is by far the best. No need to follow chronological order.

Hannibal Rising
Red Dragon
Silence of the Lambs
Hannibal
If you like Michael Mann more than Brett Ratner, substitute Manhunter for Red Dragon.

You should watch
- Red Dragon (or Manhunter),
then
- Silence of the Lambs.

...And then STOP.

Do not forget 'Manhunter (1986)'.

My favorite one of the whole bunch.

Ignore Manhunter until after you have seen the other movies. It really exists in its own fictional universe, as the tone is very different from the Anthony Hopkins' films. Start with Silence Of The Lambs, one of the best films ever made.

Don't even bother with Hannibal Rising. It can be excluded because it doesn't add anything of value to the existing story.

I'd say in the order they are made:

Manhunter, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Red Dragon, Hannibal Rising.

Or order of time:

Hannibal Rising, Manhunter/Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal.

Although it's worth a morbidly cynical giggle to see just how FAR an author will sell out when there's a pre-bought novel/sequel deal (as with Crichton's "Lost World").

I could SPOILER how goofily Harris tries to retrofit his book to tie in with MGM's "facemask" marketing, but...oh, man. You have to be there to see it.

i dont think its that much different tonally from silence of the lambs. the rest were all made to cash in on the popularity of hopkins as lecter. anthony hopkins is obviously the better lecter/lektor but i think Manhunter is the best film out of all of them.

The Silence of the Lambs, followed by Manhunter. That's it.
