Default What are your favorite Special Features?

There are a few common features found on most DVD/BlueRays releases.

Commentaries, MAKING OF features, Blooper/Gag reels, Deleted Scenes, Music Videos, Trailers, Photo Galleries, and some, like Disney, have games included.

What Special Feature sells it for you? What is your favorite and least favorite?

Nothing as good as a well produced honest 1 hour plus documentary. For example The Beginning on the Phantom Menace DVD. Excellent stuff. I love those kind of features. And an entertaining informative commentary is always good. But those are rare.

I think my FAVORITE is the blooper & gag reels. Sadly, not enough movies release this. Commentaries only on my FAVORITE films and I think EVERY movie on DVD/BluRay should have the trailer of that VERY film included.

SO many times I am trying to interrest a friend in a film and if I only had a trailer to show them, I'm sure I can sell them on watching it. But many films don't have it's own trailer anymore.

Quality Docos and quality comentaries.

Deleted scenes are a nice side disk after those.

My sun rises and sets on trailers. If I could only have one extra feature, it would be that. Watching their slow demise on BD breaks my heart.

Least favorite would probably be photo or storyboard galleries. I just start tuning out after the first few...

Easily my favorite is a well made 30min/60min plus Making of featurette, i prefer one long super detailed making of than having to watch six 5min ones.

I also love Bloopers and Gag Reels.

Personally, I usually end up watching deleted scenes and bloopers. I don't care about trailers or actors' filmographies.
I think that making of features are my favourite. And recently, I've become fascinated with restoration documentaries for old films.

I must have watched that making of at least three times, one of the best I've ever seen.

Alternate endings are interresting to watch when provided.

Commentaries are cool if it involves the principal cast members and or director

But when they get some unknown, like some much lessor crew member or fan of the film...then it looses it's worth.

I'm not sure if it is considered a "special feature" but I like when they include multiple versions of the movie (like the theatrical cut and a director's cut) on the same disc.

Nothing beats a great commentary, but I'm pretty picky about the Blurays I buy, too. For example, the commentary track on 3:10 TO YUMA is a great primer on American history of the wild west, which I love.

Gag reels, lately, seem to be a bit self-indulgent and short on gags.

Commentaries.

And to those who don't like special features.... I recommend trying them out on some of the movies you enjoy..... You may find out things that make further viewings more enjoyable.

I know everyone here hates the movie but the "making of" feature on Transformers ROTF is really great. Also the Maxium movie mode on the Watchmen Blu-ray is great if your a fan of that one.
