Talking John Woo's Stranglehold OUT NOW!

Finally, the PS3 version of Stranglehold is out in stores Today! (at least EBgames/Gamestop). The Collectors Ed. as you all know snags you the game and Hard Boiled (in full 1080p) on one Blu-ray. From what I have read in reviews (UK reviews) the PS3 version is the definitive version with both a stabilized frame rate, and imporved control sensitivity over the 360 version. I don't need to say much else as I am sure you all know enough about it. Just wanted to give you all a heads up!

I felt the controls were already tighter in the PS3 demo but without comparing the two finished games side by side I can't say much about the rest.

I agree the demo was fun, but it seemed like it would get old.

I don't like the fact that the movie is on the same disc as the game.

Gameplay on the demo was very similar to Chili Con Carnage on the PSP.

Default Disappointed in Stranglehold Collector's Edition

I would not recommend this product. If you want the game just buy the regular version. I am not sure if this version of Hard Boiled is even in HD, but if it is it looks quite bad (for HD). I have not seen the movie in ages .. but I can't imagine this looks much better (if at all) than the latest DVD two disc set release. Instead of paying 10$ extra for this I could have just bought the DVD for 15$.

That and the player for the movie is pathetic.. it doesn't tell you how far into the movie you are or even what chapter you are on. This was poorly implemented. It should have just came in a box bundled with the 15$ double dvd that is out. Maybe I was just expecting too much? I dont think so but just a heads up to potential buyers.

Too Late, I just got done playing two chapters of the game itself, and decided to see how the Hard Boiled movie was. Exactly as statikcat described, the movie is not up to par with what I was expecting. I guess I had High Expectations as well with the Hard Boiled movie that came with it. The game in my opinion is Very Good, and I love the action and gameplay, but I was expecting a Blu-ray movie in Hard Boiled. Oh, well.

It wasn't that bad, I had never seen the movie before this, so it was pretty cool to see the movie for the first time. It definitely was HD, just wasn't a highly cleaned up studio transfer. It is definitely not crap. If you were expecting Pirates of the Carribean quality transfer, you definitely had your expectations way too high, the quality is exactly what I expected. The movie was on there as a bonus, not the main feature.

Game is really fun, gameplay hasn't changed much so far from the demo. They have done a lot of touching up since the demo, not so much of the problems I remember in the demo and the graphics seem a tad touched up too. Really fun.
I liked Hardboiled, it isn't what you'd expect if you're thinking it is gonna look as awesome as most Blu-rays. It is HD, but it isn't highly cleaned up or anything. It is on as like a bonus feature, so I think it'd count as a couple steps up from the upconverted DVD. Better, but just barely. Was a lot of fun to watch though, was the first time I ever saw Hard Boiled. Makes newer movies more understandable....(As in now I know who they ripped off :P)

I'm sorry, I just got back from watching nearly the whole movie. I previously thought it was crap, but it's definitely not. I watched about a couple minutes of the opening and jumped to conclusions. The movie has pretty good quality and I was expecting Pirates quality, but like Palanthian said, the movie is a bonus to the game...very good movie though.

I posted a lengthy comparison post to the movies section basing a viewing experience against the Criterion version. It hasn't been approved by a moderator yet, but I kinda weigh favorably for the new transfer. Hopefully it will go up soon!

Yeah, I definitely thought this was the best Hard Boiled has ever looked, and I've seen every version released to video at least five times a piece.

That is good to hear it is the best transfer so far. And this is NOT a "bonus". You pay 10$ for it.

This is true but I would rather pay the extra 10 for a movie on the disc then the lame 360 collectors ed. complete with tacky faceplate. Besides the movie while not up to the visiual quality of POTC or Replacement Killers but it was alot better then the previous DVD release (I have not seen the new 2-disc special ed. DVD) I was playing this last night and was very impressed with how solid the framerate was (especially compared to the 360 one) I only noticed one sputter in the frame rate, other then that rock solid. Thank you Midway!
