Default section 8 now on PSN

PS3 sees TimeGate Studios' sci-fi first person shooter

Beginning today, PS3 gamers can download TimeGate Studios' sci-fi first-person shooter Section 8 for $29.99. Released on the Xbox 360 and PC last year, Section 8 for the PS3 includes tweaks to the graphics and multiplayer match-up system, as well three extra maps originally available as downloadable content for the other versions of the game.

* Play online against 32 players at a time across 11 unique outdoor battlefields.
* Spawning never gets old when you burn-in to battle from 15,000 feet! Choose anywhere on the map to land.
* Call in deployables such as tanks and mech suits to gain a strategic advantage as you advance on the enemy.
* Customize your weapons, equipment, and armored suit, and never be restricted to classes again!
* Jump into the boots of Alex Corde as Section 8 fights to liberate the oppressed colony of New Madrid.
* Enhanced matchmaking and friend tracking ensures you are always finding the server you want.

Hmm, I know i have seen that somewhere before...

Didn't expect much from a $29 game that had a lower than average score on Metacritic, but it's a decent enough shooter so far, albeit quite generic.

Enjoying the single player, and at the price it might become popular as a cheap PSN sci fi shooter with MP.
The jet pack reminds me a lot of Tribes.

I'm hoping on getting the game myself when its on the EU PS Store. Problem is the huge file size. I mean 3.6GB? Makes me wonder why they didn't release it on BD.

I think it's because even a BD 25 would have been overkill , and since this game is under
4 GB releasing it online PSN is the cheapest way to do that , if this sell's quite a bit, which it just may due to word of mouth, because it is a pretty good game in my opinion, i bought it for the PC and I am going to get if for my PS3 soon, I think we will be seeing more small PC developer's doing this. which mean's $30.00 for a decent quality game like this is a pretty good deal in my opinion, it's good for the gamer's and Developer's and good for Sony, I do think they should have released it and done this in the first place last sept. when they may have sold more copy's.

Really don't get the hate this game gets. About as close to a Tribes game as it seems we will get these days and very fun IMO. Also already had it for PC but decided to double dip. Can easily max it out on PC but it does seem to look better on PS3 so nice to see that graphics tweak claim wasn't false hype. But also kind of sad.... how many full price retail games have got poor ports to PS3 with a lack of effort? When a developer puts more effort into tweaking a game for PS3 that is a download only $30 game it sure doesn't say much for other developers and have to give TimeGate props for that

Only problem was the download being stupid about telling me how much space was needed. At this point I might own around 200 PSN games if not more and then of course required installs and stuff can be pretty big in space needed so I am always fighting HDD space. But figured I have not been playing Force Unleashed and that had an install around 5GB and this is a little under 4GB so figured that would do it. With remaining space I already had that also put me over 6GB so well over what the download size is. But when I tried to start the download it said I didn't have enough space. So I deleted a few games. Same thing. Kept this up for about 10 minutes trying to get it to download before finally downloading once I had more than 10GB and had to delete stuff I didn't want to delete So now I have more than 6GB free still and don't know why the hell it was not letting me download it until I cleared so much space

Probably because at some point the system needs to have both the compressed (zipped?) file you download, and the space taken by the install itself, before it can actually delete the DL package.

I guess

That would potentially make sense but it wouldn't have needed more than 10GB and I am pretty sure I have been fine before downloading something without double the space so I don't think it does that. If it does though just another reason to hate the post download installs

I think it was because Cellfactor was released at such short notice. Section 8 had more hype to it.

This game is really fun once you learn whats going on ... it can be a bit much to take in on one MP game but after about 5 you get the drift.

They also offer an awesome stats portal at the official site and gives you in depth details once you sign up for that site. (more than just viewing the stats without signing up)

Story was decent but MP is awesome, my favorite part is that you can do ranked matches vs. real players , bots, or mixed. Reason being, in 6 months of so when real folks may not be heavy on this game I can still play this and wont feel cheated as I can always throw it on with mixed (bots and real peeps)

To me, its like a $50 game that only costs $30 .... well worth it.

Dont expect it to be $10 anytime soon ... you'd be lucky if it hits $20 in 3 months.

Well look at Record of Agarest War. In America it's a game that's like 10GB that comes out this week but yet no disc release for PS3 version only 360 version(though I assume that the 360 version will have to be toned down to fit on 1 dual-layer disc like maybe make it an upscale). So same situation as with Section 8. At least you guys in Europe can get a disc release for Agarest(though no trophies).
