Default Disney and Blu-ray

The more I think about I believe if Blu simply keeps Disney in a stranglehold... blu will win.

IMO all disney films of any type or quite decent for some reason, I come out enjoying them even though some of them are family oriented. But There is something about disney films also, they simply dont produce super blockbusters. Meaning disney feels more for rentals or home video type of environment. BDA just better keep them cuz they produce pretty dam good home videos.

disney is a top notch corporation. as long as they were with blu, there was no doubt blu would win. it's looking more and more like blu WILL win, even if its in 1-2 yrs. they have such a good selection does disney and buena vista, and they make it look sensational.

As goes Disney, so goes the format war.

I have most of their stuff.

Yep, thus far, they have done a swell job on theire Blu-ray releases.

Of course, there is the issue of misframing in POTC 1 (an issue blown way out of proportion on AVS).

But other than that, top marks to Disney

I am such a Disney crack addict. I buy everything they print. Its a sickness. I have double and even triple-dipped when it comes to their movies.

Not to mention a Blu-Disney addiction. The only thing better would be Blu-Star Wars.

All well and good, but where's the 40th anniversary edition of The Jungle Book to go alongside the DVD release?

I love Disney and Thank God they are on the Blu side.

Every studio has their own reason for siding with a format.
I believe it is in large part due to the copy protection BR offers as well as some good BDA incentives that attracted Disney.

Thus far the quality has been the most consistent of any studio.

With the exception of Pixar the animated Disney flicks haven't been nearly as good as the Aladin's, Lion Kings etc. of years ago.

Their past collection is very good though.

For current films Pixar is where it's at.

Is it possible since Steve Jobs is a major owner he simply sided with the opposite of Microsoft?

HEHE I'm sure that helped but some studios are very anal about protecting their property Fox and Disney in particular. I think that was their biggest incentive.

Christ, Disney is going nowhere. I believe it was Disney that introduced Sony to BD-j. I could be wrong though.

Now some of Disney's ads don't even mention DVD, just Blu-ray and end with "plays on all Blu-ray players and Playstation 3"

Here's a look at the Meet the Robinson's commercial which shows this:

I agree I think Disney is one of if not our strongest advantages, they also are GREAT press. I love the fact that they are also educating the Public and showing them the obvious choice when it comes to Hi Def.

I have to add that the evolution of the Opening credits (The Amazing Disney Castle with Fireworks and Tink) Is simply outstanding.

I love their marketing "Available in DVD and Disney's Blu ray"

Thats because Pixar has really been the only one to put anything out...with very few exceptions.

Well, they didn't maintain the OAR for the 40th anniversary dvd release; they went and did a pan & scan crop job on it to make it fill a widescreen tv. I'd rather not see it on blu unless they put it back the way it should be.

I would think it's more complicated than that..but Steve Jobs is certainly well aware of the Extend, Embrace, Extinguish mentality of MS - probably more than anyone. And he is wealthy enough that he can't be swayed off his position via suitcases.
