Default ** where is WATERSHIP DOWN on blu? **

Being that Warner Brothers released WATERSHIP DOWN on a special edition dvd on October 7th, 2008, one has to wonder why they didn't release a blu-ray edition as well.

How would people feel about creating a petition to get Warner's to release this on blu-ray, with the special features?

Everytime WB's has a Home Theatre Forum chat I aske for it but get shot down because they believe they are not responsible for it.

for the TV and Animation Chat they tell me sorry that is thru theatrical and when they doa theatrical chat they tell me it is under animation and they can not answer that. Basically they aren't listening.

WB's doesn't have much in their cannon for good animated films, it would be nice to see Watership Down not interlaced. It is annoying.

HD would be nice to see it progressive scanned and not choppy looking.

I haven't seen Watership Down in an age and a day. I wouldn't mind if the next time I saw it was on blu-ray.

Tonites WB's Home Theatre Forum Chat is going on. Since they were releasing the BLU-RAY for Lord of the Rings animated on BLU - Would they release WATERSHIP DOWN on BLU also.

*I also asked about Wait till your Father Gets Home on DVD ( they released the first season and the sales were poor. Jackie Earle Haley did the voice of the boy on the show.

WB'S ANSWER : WarnerBros>: If Lord of the Rings does well...anything's possible... Based on poor performance, additional seasons of Wait till Your Father Gets Home is doubtful.

What I find annoying is - is that the folks at Warner say if The Lord of the Rings: Animated does well, you'll get this... I mean WTF, those two movies have nothing in common aside from that they're both animated films. Why should one depend on the other.

So if somewhere along the road one animated film doesn't do well on blu, we'll never see any others again. WOW! Great logic, can't go up against that.

Apparently WATERSHIP DOWN has been released on blu-ray in Germany.

Here is the review from Amazon.de (edited):
"For the film itself there is no need to say much. A classic that has, at least for me, not lost its fascination. The Blu-ray version is lacking in extras, but offers an impressive picture. The film is about thirty years, and now and then you notice a little bit of film grain. The sharpness is impressive for such an old movie and the Blu-ray is absolutely worthy of purchase."

"Fortunately, as far as I can see there is good color saturation. On should not expect miracles for the audio, which is in Dolby Digital 2.0 (English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0). Of course, more extras would have been desirable, and the menu is simply bad, but seriously: It is about the movie and the image quality... so 5 stars from me!"

The link seems to only state a digital version only via iTunes. Not sure a blu ray is coming.

well, they say since a digital file will be released, a Bluray will be a sure thing.
Hope this opens the road for more animation films with Criterion!

They didn't say that at all. Why are you misleading readers here?

I've heard some murmurs about a BD release, from a few sources. I don't think Criterion would acquire a film of this caliber for just digital distribution

I imported the German release a couple of years ago as I was tired waiting,it did later get a UK release which is another option for some although the German release has lossless audio.
