Default Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series -- Blind Buy?

Does this show make for a good blind buy? If so? why or why not?

You can look at my collection to get an idea of what I like. I am a fan of sci-fi generally speaking. I am not afraid to blind buy, as i have blind bought about 25% of my collection (around 50 movies of 191).

Thoughts?

Yes, it makes a good blind buy. It's widely regarded as one of the better series of recent times. Well written and acted, with a unique visual style and an audio mix that puts some movies to shame. I've had a brief look through your collection and you seem to have some similar tastes to me in terms of genres of films. One thing to know about BSG is that just like Firefly, lumping it in the Sci-Fi category just doesn't do it justice. It has many other elements that make it more than just one genre. The price is good for what you get and the Blu-ray quality is top notch.

The best recommendation I can give: Just frakking buy it.

I have watched the series twice through now and it really is frakking awesome. Even my wife likes it, more for the drama and story than for the sci fi elements. Based on your collection I think you would probably enjoy it. It is complex and I would consider it an epic. The acting and story telling is top notch. The only complaint I have heard about it concerns the ending, but I actually liked it pretty well. Hope that helps.

I have to say...my wife also loved this show (and she is not a huge sci-fi person).

My gf and I both love it!
We haven't finished it yet though, we're waiting to get the Blu-ray so we can finish the series, but it is incredulous! I don't even know if that's a real word

So far the feedback seems to be good..... I may have to bite. I know it has action and a lot of drama. Would this be appropriate most ages (generally speaking).

It includes the Mini-series (obviously), Razor, and The Plan all for $149.99 CAD (amazon.ca). No question! I am curious about this price as it would take well over $200 to buy the DVD sets plus Razor/The Plan separately.

Now I need to sell seasons 1-3

Can't add much more to what's already been said above, but yes -- if you're at all into the grittier HBO dramas of recent years (The Wire, Rome, Deadwood), as well as FX's offerings (The Shield, Breaking Bad, Mad Men), pick this one up.

It's certainly one of the darker, bleaker TV series that's ever been on the air, SF or otherwise, and truthfully is really far more of a political allegory set in space than a proper science-fiction series. Even my mother -- who absolutely detests science fiction -- was instantly hooked after I persuaded her to watch the first season on DVD.

A prominent critic not long ago called the remade Battlestar Galactica "The Sopranos of science fiction," and he was absolutely correct.

Just buy it mate, it's probably the best sci-fi show of all time.

And if it's not to your taste, you can sell it on for pretty much what you paid...you'll have plenty of buyers.

I must disagree with u guys, while the ideas behind the story were great, the series was, in my opinion, boring...
