Default Sony BDV-E800W

I am planning on buying the Sony BDV-E800W. I live in Saudi Arabia, and the problem is that my local Sony store has the player but only plays blu-ray regions B and C. I brought a region A locked movie to the store to test it and no playback.

Does anyone know how to hack it or make the player region free. The store manager is still trying to contact the service center and Sony HQ in the Middle East for answers but still no luck

I had the same question and when browsing for info, google brought your neglected question on top of the list. Shame that nobody had answered and I had to keep looking by myself . It looks to me that you can hack the DVD function (using the AllForOne remote control, as I did) but you can't hack Blu-ray . I hope to be wrong and told so with the instructions...

Sorry, I do not have a reply to your question but I have another question for the same home theatre set.

I have purcahsed a sony Blue ray home theatre BDV-E800W. It plays only Mpeg, simple Mpeg3 and WMV formats. Sony has come out with new blue ray player which can play .divx, .avi, .mkv, .xvid, etc. Can somebody tell me how can I upgrade the firmware to play these contents. Also the new player can stream internet videos. BDV-E800W has a slot for internet and USB cable - can this feature also be enabled.

Thanks you.

In all of my reading here on Blu-ray.com, none have mention a mod or hack for the Sony to make it region free. I have the Oppo and it can be made region free with a mod that I can purchase separately. However the Oppo is only for sale in North America. You can try searching the form for more information on the locked codes of the world. Best of luck
