Default HELP: Quality of these films....

Hi, I bought these titles very cheap from a friend, for a limited time only... i never had the chance to check it out.. because i was scared someone would buy it instead of me...

i was wondering, did i just stupidly buy bad products?

here are the movies:

-truman show
-point break
-pretty woman
-goodfellas
-assassination of jesse james

thanks a lot guys...

They are all very good movies. I haven't seen Jesse James, but I've heard good things. Every other film is great.
The BDs however...
The Truman Show looks good, but the video is slightly stretched.
Point Break looks as good as it has probably ever looked. Great action movie from an Academy-award winning director, Kathryn Bigelow.
Pretty Woman is probably the best in terms of AV quality.
Goodfellas could use some improvement, probably the worst.

Assassination of Jesse James does not include a loss-less audio track. I love the movie, but I'm hoping I'll be able to buy it someday.

because of the bad quality, or because you simply don't like the film?

you have the movies right? why not check them out for yourself... it is crazy to ask other people how a film's picture quality is as their tastes may be different that yours.

that being said, the PQ will always be the same or better than the DVD, so if you got them for cheap, dont worry about it. It's the audio quality that bugs some people and lack of extras possibly.

Truman Show is a horrible blu-ray, but I don't see it getting remastered any time soon so it might be the only game in town. Goodfellas isn't a great disc either and I think a double dip is inevitable. Jesse James is fine since it's a newer movie. I don't know about Point Break or Pretty Woman.

Truman Show.
It has DNR applied to it right?
Edit: I just remember it looked wrong and I couldn't put my finger on it.

I wouldn't call Truman a horrible blu-ray. It was very solid in PQ/AQ and a great movie besides. Rated 4.5/4.5 for PQ/AQ by the reviewer on this site and I agree with that.

It has DNR, it has edge enhancement, it's horizontally stretched, it's pretty much a mess.

There are a couple of distinct problems with the transfer for The Truman Show that have been dissected on other sites. The image has been stretched and distorted for one thing.

Yeah as I said I remembered thinking it looked wrong, just couldn't put my finger on what exactly, but DNR came to mind.
The review here praises it though.

GOODFELLAS and THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD are the only safe bets from that list (though, to be clear, great films, average Blu-rays, because they were early in the format). The others I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole...

The following site links to eight different reviews for The Truman Show on Blu-ray:

http://www.hddb.net/reviews/truman-s...919800-blu-ray

The key to gleaning information from reviews is in finding reliable reviewers who know what they are discussing.

You do realize that just cause it isn't the best looking blu ray ever that the movie is still great right? I'd be more concerned with the movie quality of Jesse James. It has assassination in the title so you think there might be some actual gun fights or action but you'd be wrong. I love Brad Pitt but that movie felt like it was 4 hours long.

Agreed, but you may still find that the PQ and AQ are better or worse then what you've read. Newer movies on the average seem to be better in those respects. First titles on blu suffer the most. And older titles just being released on blu all I can say is read all you can and go with your gut instincts before you buy.
