Default Will they ever remake FF7?

I've heard so many rumors regarding the much anticipated remake of FF7. Obviously this has yet to happen. Do you think it will ever happen? Square Enix and Sony gave us a teaser of what a remake could be like. It can't be because they are afraid it wouldnt make money. I'd be willing to bet that a FF7 remake would be the "avatar" (in terms of sales) of the video game world.

Why do you think Square Enix has yet to do a remake?

I think they'll first do a postmortem on FFXIII's performance/sales. If Square/Enix feels it was a smashing success, they'll continue in that vein. If it, or FFXIV proves disappointing, or the fan reaction isn't there, then I wouldn't be surprised if a FFVII reboot comes down the pipe to re-energize the old fans.

so I read this in some random forum and don't know how credible it is but they said that according to psxextreme.com that S-E japan posted a question on their site asking if fans wanted a remake..

long story short
site was immediately flooded and S-E supposedly had to ask fans to stop posting because the site was crashing due to the traffic..and article writer is questioning S-E's intelligence as to ask.. the question after several years the fans themselves have been asking for it

but then again it might have been some kind of cruel april fools joke

I would rather not see a ff7 remake.
I want to remember for what it was at the time.
Anyone doing anything to it now will ruin a great epic.
Lets move on...

qj.net had an article about a week ago where the head of Square said they are exploring the possibility of a FFVII remake so lets hope for the best.

I don't know about that. With todays advacements in gaming I think a remake could really enhance what made FF7 so great. For those of you who say it will never happen do you really think it will never happen? If it has the potential to make lots of money it WILL happen.

It does have potential to make money. Fans went crazy when that tech demo came out, what, 5 years ago? Fans have wanted a remake of FF7 for years, it has never happen. If the tech demo was anything more than what they said it was, we would had known by now. It will NEVER happen.

If something crazy would happen, and they DID make it, do you really think it would be the same game? Have the same mechanics, combat style, etc.? No. They would change it. Just because something was great 13 years ago, doesn't mean it hold up today or have the same impact now that it did back then.

If I were to make a guess, I would guess that any FF7remake would arrive within the next 2.5 years.

A large number of elements in FFXIII reminded me of FF7 (environment, characters, etc.). The battle system in FF13 is fantastic, they have the assets to make a beautiful game. I can only hope.

I wouldn't doubt that they remake it somewhere down the line. The demand is definitely there. But, it probably won't be coming out for quite a while because SquareEnix is supposedly making new Kingdom Hearts games at the moment.

There will definitely be an FFVII remake. Its a matter of when, not if. They've remade I - V already. Its a profitable venture that I'm sure they will continue----edit* they would be fools to not continue.

A VI remake is in the works, currently. It will sell truckloads.

VII will be remade, but its not needed right now. Squaresoft is rolling along pretty well. They've made back a lot of money and have even been able to greenlight some experiments.

They have already sold a lot of VII as a PSone download to play on PSP and PS3. I'm sure VIII saw some good sales, too.

XIII is a garunteed success and from there they can roll out the VI remake and move into some Kingdom Hearts, among other things. Oh yeah, that FFXIII VS thing is still due out, too.

Sometime after all of that is when I'd expect an FFVIII remake. So maybe it will be a final song on PS3 or they could bill it as an early PS4 game.

I think S-E will not remake it, because S-E has largely faded into irrelevance lately, and the only thing that keeps them on people's mind is the thought of a FF7 remake.

Take that away, and what does S-E have left?

Basically the endless threads like this one are worth more to S-E than the actual game would be.

This.

Plus, no matter how hard they try, they'll disappoint half the people begging for a remake.

At this point, I think Square-Enix continues to encourage the rumors (instead of just squashing them flat) because "hope" is the most precious commodity in all of existence.

Bullshit

I don't want to get into how clueless your statement is. I would have to question your definition of relevance and other criteria that determine how "important" the company is, and how you scientifically proven that a "FF7 remake" is the only thing that keeps SE on people's mind. It's a stupid thing to say, it's argumentative for the sake of being snide, and is a troll comment. For example, I would never say Bungie is irrelevant despite the fact that they only have one decent franchise. Same for Valve.

The only PS franchise that has maintained this level of quality with each and every release has been the Metal Gear Solid Franchise.

Take away a rumored FF7 remake and you have FF14, FF13 Versus, and many other games on game consoles I ignore.

FF13 is full of reminders of what a remake of previous classics would look like. The only example I will bring up is that the world of Gran Pulse has a striking similarity to the world of FF8. Vanille's hometown looks like Fisherman's Horizon, not to mention the presence of a red giant in the sky that causes the plant harm (red moon, Cocoon.)

With that said, you obviously have no interest in Final Fantasy, Square Enix, or even a FF7 remake. So why do you waste your time posting in a thread that is about one of the previously mentioned topics? Don't be a troll.

Heads up: Terjyn is a heavy gamer who's big on JRPGs. He's probably got more hours invested in FF13 than you do, and I'm pretty sure he's played as many Final Fantasy games (if not more so) than I have --- and I've been gaming for a very long time.

I don't know that I agree with his viewpoint that FF7 is the only reason Square-Enix is even relevant these days, but consider the cult worship that a sizable section of Final Fantasy fanatics hold for FF7 in particular, his point (similar to mine above) is that the "idea" of a FF7 remake is more valuable to Square-Enix in terms of holding mindshare than any actual attempt to make such a remake.

I don't want them to. The original is close enough to perfect for me.

At this point, I rather see them remake FF7 into a movie rather than a game. I rather square-enix spend their time making a new FF game rather than going back to make FF7 with better graphics.
