It is playing in HD on ABC right now. It looks pretty good for its age, colors are bright, no obvious scratches or artifacts. Does this mean we can look forward to a release soon?

Correct me if I am wrong here, but just because a movie is being shown on an HD channel, that doesn't necessarily mean that the movie itself is HD.

I am all in favor of a good Blu-ray release of the movie.

You are correct but this looks too good to be upconversion.

I turned to the movie. The picture is very good indeed. I don't remember seeing the movie with this good a picture before.

What is the actual aspect ratio for the film (the 1956 one), on DVD it's 1.85 but in 1989 it was shown at 2.20 in theaters. Which one is the corect ratio?

Originally it was shot in VistaVision which is a special 35mm way of shooting. It was rereleased in theaters in 70mm.

The ABC logo on the bottom right of the screen is annoying to me. I wish there was a way to turn it off. lol

The 50th Anniversary Edition DVD is 1.78:1. How many aspect ratios does this movie have?

Just switched over from Final Four to check out the PQ and it does look very, very good. Best I've ever seen it. Has to be from an HD source.

If anyone actually read the post on VistaVision, lo, it was shown in 1.85 originally. It was transferred to 70mm for the re-release. And everyone is watching it on ABC in the house tonight, even the 7 year old. Well, wait, the creepy bro in law is drifting in and out, lol. Anyone need a roomie? lol

My Directv feed must be the difference then. It is showing at the previously aforementioned resolution.

1280 x 720 is 720p. My Dish receiver is set to 1080i output and that is what I am watching it in.
