Default PS3: Blue Laser Warps After 150hrs?

I stopped in to my local EB Games in the mall today to pick up an extra PS3 controller so I can do some multiplayer local goodness. The counter jockey made sure I actually owned a PS3 and then made sure I had the warranty that they sell because "the blue laser in it warps after 150 hours. Sony's working to figure out how to fix it fast."

I just stared at him. I've been told enough fish tales at retail before and I had not heard this from anyone online yet, but have been busy the last two days and not surfing. Anyone else hear this? I figure if true it would be all over the place.

That's ridiculous. Some people will say anything to sell a warranty.

It's such a great warranty. I don't know why some people feel the need to make things up to sell it.

I've taken advantage of it in the past and it's been great. I had to use it when I first got the PS2 when it launched.

That's what kills me about it. I have the extended warranty from them. I don't buy the game warranties but I always get them with the consoles just because I do get launch units and I know the chances. That said, I have never had any issue with my consoles. PS1 launch console still works. PS2 launch console still works. etc etc.

I'm always amazed how these EB Games employees have all the inside poop that NOBODY else does.

I think many are still waiting for that HDMI cable for the Xbox 360 that some EB Games employee said was coming by December 2005.

That said, we won't know the reliability of the laser for a while. But, Sony are completely out of their collective minds if they didn't get some solid MTBF numbers calculated.

That's most likely a lie. I've heard enough strange things from Gamestop employees to realize that they'll spread any kind of shit to sell something. My friend once told me that a Gamestop employee tried to sell him a PSP case, saying that the case was "aerodynamically designed" so that if dropped, it wouldn't drop screen-side down.

150 hours? That means someone got the PS3 on the 17, played non stop for 16 hours everyday, and his Laser exploded Sunday morning so he coulda go to church.

I didn't get the EB warranty because it was the same length as the manufacturer. Also will be hard to get a replacement quickly.
