Foon-hei: No probs. It just happens to be one of my pet peeves. It's pretty hard to stay spoiler free in the age of the internet even if you are planning to see a theatrical release. It's even harder here in Australia because it can be months after a US release before we get a film so trying not to accidentally find out anything is almost an artform.
Just make sure you watch the version with the alternative ending. It is so very much better then the theatrical ending.

I took your advice and watched the alternate ending for my first viewing. I agree, it is the better of the two. IMHO though, a combination of the two with
[Show spoiler]Micah being killed and then launched into the camera followed by Katie slitting her throat might have been the best option. I think that captures the best death of Micah and eliminates the slightly cheese "I'm coming straight at the camera moment" for Katie, instead showing that the demon won.

I was pleasantly surprised. It's not a masterpiece, but I'd place it along with The Strangers (which I found a bit better) in what I can only call a terror genre where the main aim is to build suspense. I certainly wouldn't call it a horror film like some have but that's probably the "box" the general public may have lumped it in.

Not a fan, but this film was not bad for an $11,000 film.

The studios and theaters made a fortune off of it, with a domestic gross of $107,918,810 and a foreign gross of $84,826,567 with a total worldwide gross of $192,745,377.

yeah i received one from a trade (thanks Suntory_Times! ) and the shop has obviously taped extra wrap over the original shrink wrap, I just took it off, the steelbook is still sealed underneath!

Great looking steelbook this one.

Always nice embossing on the Austrailian ones.

A staff member once told me it's for security. Surprisingly they said that adding that extra layer of tape makes it that much more difficult to open the package in store for someone to steal the discs. The tape makes it a little more obvious you're trying to break into the pack to get to the discs. Makes sense actually as I imagine the tape probably costs barely anything whereas fitting all their Blu-rays with a security case would cost a lot more even if they were re-usable. It's the same reason they shrink wrap their CDs with the thick plastic.

Damn, that right there is the best thing since sliced bread. Now my life of crime will succeed!

Seriously though, apparently bright lights, staff always "stocking" during business hours and a layer of tape do the trick.

Yeah, I was told by an Aussie about the tape thing back when I was doing a trade. Funny thing is, I went to Best Buy to return a blu-ray that I picked up cheaper elsewhere, and the CSR started opening it up. I was freaking out 'cos it was sealed, and I asked her what was she doing 'cos it's sealed? She told me they are now required to randomly open blu's that are returned because they have been getting them in with the discs missing from the cases. I was shocked, but not worried 'cos the discs were in the case. I felt bad she had to do that to a perfectly good blu that could be resold, but she said they still get money back even if it's open. I might try to tell them to do what Australia does, but it's not like the thieves couldn't just tape them the same way Best Buy does. She even told me that one person came with a few blu's, and when she started opening one, he said nevermind and left to try to return them at two other stores.

Hmmm....I wonder if that's as sad as trying to hide steelbooks in appliances such as microwaves around the entire store on launch day only to get busted by the manager.
