Question Making PS3 owners aware of the Blu-ray Player

I have noticed on all my Region B BDs that there is a sticker stating "Plays on Playstation 3 & BD player with HDTV" but have not seen this on any of my region A discs. Why don't they do this in the USA.

Can't speak for the USA, but here in Canada I've seen such stickers on Blu-ray Discs... I think we get the same discs as the US.

Anyone that actually has any level of interest in PS3, is aware that it's a Blu-ray player (i.e. people are aware the discs would play in a PS3, no need for the label).

But it might also encourgage people to buy the 40gig PS3 aswell. Its a simple and effective way of letting people know.

Anyone know how many 40GB PS3s will have the S-M3 disc?

I think every PS3 ever sold should have come with a movie.

I think all current 40GB ps3s have the sm3 movie included... I don't know how long that promotion is intended for, but I don't think you can get one without. Also, I agree that all PS3s should have a movie included, it makes it pretty damn obvious that it plays blu-ray movies.

They do it in the US as well. I've seen "Plays on your PS3" stickers on quite a few of my discs. This isn't really important though if people don't know the PS3 plays blu-ray discs in the first place.

Hopefully sony puts out one of their new onyx commercials that will focus just on blu-ray capability. That should hammer it home. They do plenty of that in print ads but no television ads yet.

I've noticed on recent commercials, they are now saying "available on DVD and Blu-ray High Definition"... which I think is GREAT. Mentioning that Blu-ray is a High Def format clears up any confusion to "Joe Consumer" who might think that hd dud is High Def and Blu-ray is not. Every little thing helps.

A recent survey (I don't remember who conducted this so take it with a grain of salt) said that 60% of PS3 owners didn't know about the Blu-Ray capabilities. Whether or not that's true I have no idea but I do know that there are a lot of people who don't even know what a Blu-Ray movie is, and many of them even own PS3's.

Others think Blu-Ray is just for games, they don't know that Blu-Ray is used for movies as well.

As for the stickers, I've seen them on a few of my movies as well (in Canada) so I'm sure they have them in the US as well.

Packaging the PS3 with a Blu-Ray movie I think is the best way to raise awareness of the machines capabilities. That way that HAVE to know about it, since they own one. Sony is doing this with Spiderman 3 on releases (in Europe only I think. 100,000 copies.)

Some of the US discs I own had a sticker saying this. I know the Spiderman trilogy did.

It's more important to inform people of this at the time that they buy the PS3 for the greatest penetration (Sony should include a BR movie in every PS3 box, something I've maintained since their launch).

While labeling discs is helpful, it's also premised on the expectation that someone who doesn't know they own a BD player will circumstantially find themselves looking at BR discs one day...I think that's a somewhat unlikely leap in logic.

I used to work at Futureshop, and when I sold a PS3, i made sure i attached a game, controller, and atleast one blu-ray title. This is a way of increasing awarenss, which is good for blu-ray in the long run, thus good for the company. Granted, i also attached a HD-DVD drive and a HD DVD to every 360 i sold...but, correct me if i'm wrong, doesn't the USB cable used to connect the Drive to the Xbox kills the picture quality?
