Default Are people happy with sd tv and movies

Does it seem that people are satisfied with standard definition or does most people want the HD upgrade?

I'm an electronics manager for a Target store in a wealthy area of Atlanta and to tell you the truth most customers could care less about Blu-ray and HD-DVD!!!

I personally didn't need to see a BD movie to know it was better then SD, but when I actually saw BD, after buying a PS3 and HDTV, I was hooked, NEVER settle for 2nd best!

People are happy with what they have for now. They have a TV with a Vhs player so they can watch there movies then upgraded to DVD and they got a better quality picture than they had before.
So yes I think they are happy with what they have for now.

When you decided to buy a HDTV, you did tons of reserch and then settle on one, added to that you have to get HD service from your cable company the cost just keep going up then you need a Blu ray player, an av set up cost keep goin up.
Is it woth it ?.....for me it is.You can't go back.

Watching an SD-DVD on an HDTV is horrible. It doesn't seem right. But watching an SD-DVD on an SDTV is not that bad

hrmm well i wokr in a rich area of atlanta. Alpharetta/johns creek and i can tell you that the definitely do care about the quality of video they get for their nice tv's. And most of them are easily choosing blu-ray. The 99$ hd dvd player hasnt even phased most of the customers i talk to. One guy just picked up a Wii, a ps3 for blu-ray and a hd -dvd player for his bedroom.

the ps3 for his 52" sony lcd. to play movies he will buy in blu-ray as he picked up some from me.
the hd dvd player to upconvert his current dvd library in his bedroom.
the wii to keep the kids off his 52" and on the 32" in the play room.

So sorry man, but they definitely do care. and if you think they dont then you should definitely SHOW them a high def movie in comparison to a sd dvd and they will start caring. if you dont show them then ur not really asking them to compare anything and their opinion is null.

just because one group of people in a rich area care does'nt mean the other group will feel the same way.

i think alot of people are happy with SD just because the price to get the 100% useage out of HD is to much of cost for them.

but tv's are dropping in price and im sure more people will make the plunge.

Its harder to go back to VHS from SDTV than it is to go back from HDTV to SDTV. When you go back to VHS from SDTV not only do you lose the picture and sound quality but you also lose the ability to jump to any scene with a push of a button. The only thing different (so far) from SDTV and HDTV is the sound and picture quality.

my point was that i have conflicting information for the same area where he said they wouldnt.

ive run across many people in many area's who just need to see the difference. and if places like target cannot show it to them then of course they wouldnt care.

Right now HD is too expensive for mass market. Some people realy dont care about resolution, as long as they can watch what they want, very simply.

HD requires, some knowlege, and technical skill to acheive by yourself. Not every one is up to speed with new technology. DVD's main advantage was it looked WAY better than VHS, the quality of the movie will not go down from use as tape would, you did not have to rewind it. The biggest advantage that DVD had was you could use your old TV. Blu-ray on a SD Tube TV would not be practical, as DVD is already loosing half it's resolution on SD Tube TVs. Blu-ray will look no better than DVD.

With newer upsampling players, DVD's will look better than ever on HDTV's which alure is it's space saving slim design. A lot of people will be convinced that those 1080i/1080p upsampling players are realy converting their DVD to HD. But it really isn't. Upsampled DVD's are still SD.

Upsampling your DVDs produces better picture for your DVDs when playd on an HDTV. But does not increase the detail of the video because the video has been encoded at 480i. However broadcasted HD is still in it's infancy, and low bitrate HD programing can lead some people to believe that DVD looks better, which is true in some cases.

Bottom line: Keep buying Blu-ray, kill off HD DVD, then blu-ray will be true successor of DVD. Then Blu-ray will be the only media to get movies on, period.

Could care less or couldn't care less? The former means that they DO care (because it is possible for them to care less), whereas the latter means they don't care at all (and that's the one I think you mean).

You know, in my case, I was completely satisfied, UNTIL I ACTUALLY SAW HD. I never even saw an HDTV until this past year when I decided to start shopping for them. I tossed around the idea of upgrading many times, but I kept asking myself, "Will the increased happiness be worth several thousand dollars?" after all was said and done. Most people, I think, don't buy new televisions until the old one dies. Once the old tubes start to die our (or when they can no longer get analog programming) the interest will pick up, because people will HAVE to shop for new TV's.

yep for everyone you gotta see it to believe it.

Even in the realm of automotive cars.. every kid on the block says bmw's are just penis extensions and really arent good drives.. none of them have driven one.. but once you drive one you realize their goood driving machines. they truly are.

You gotta show people and not just tell them. Every person who buys a tv from me or people buying tv's from my associates hell i always do the "You guys do realize what you needt o buy next?? a blu-ray player! come check one out" take em to the 52w3000 sony next to the 52" samsung next tot he 52" sharp all showing blu-ray.

After they stare at it for a while everyones question is alwys how much is it! course half wont buy it jsut yet.. others.. show me this 399.99 playstation 3

Read about it.

Bought it.

Watched it.

Never looked back

Unless I know it's NOT coming to Blu, may be a while or is a "classic", I will buy it on DVD and when/if it ever comes to Blu, I will buy it on HD
