Streaming movies from PC to PS3 - Blu-ray Forum

How exactly is this done? I downloaded a divX player last night and transferd some movies over but the player doesn't show up in the media server on my PS3. Is there something else im suppose to do? Or does divX not work with the PS3? I've never done this before.

I perfer to use PS3 Media Server http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/
It does a great job with streaming and transcoding.

Download PS3 Media Server onto your computer (http://ps3mediaserver.googlecode.com...ws-1.10.51.exe). It will take care of the rest.

+1, I'm pretty sure that's what just about everyone uses. It's a great program and there really isn't a lot of codecs that it can't handle. Works great for me!

I agree. PMS is the best one I've run across so far and its free.

Haven't had anything it couldn't handle come up yet

Windows Media Player 12 on Win7 will stream content. Usually what I use. It does not transcode anything, though. For that I use PlayOn.

PS3 Media Server is certainly easy to use. It converts all your videos to MP4 on the fly and streams them to your PS3. JHowever, since it's reencoding, it can degrade the video slightly and I believe it also turns 5.1 audio into 2.0.

Or check out the Youtube videos for how to set up a regular media server for your PS3.
