Default Another Remake: Commando

Hey,

Commando is getting the special treatment. remake.

Well The Rock replace Ahnold?.

Quote:
First up, JoBlo caught wind of an article in the Australian magazine RCI that claims a remake of the 1980’s Arnold Schwarzenegger action classic Commando is being developed. Another site, Cinefools, has also heard rumblings of a Commando reboot, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson rumored to star. Hollywood is rebooting all the other Schwarzenegger action films (Predator, Total Recall..etc) so why not Commando? And The Rock has long been compared as the Arnold of the next generation. Some might recall a mini “passing of the torch” in The Rundown. Mark this rumor as possible.
Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: 20th Century Fox is going Commando again, setting David Ayer to write and direct a reboot of the 1985 film that became one of the building blocks that transformed Arnold Schwarzenegger from bodybuilder to superstar. Erwin Stoff and John Davis will produce the new version.

Ayer is the former Navy soldier who wrote Training Day and moved into directing with the dark dramas Harsh Times and Street Kings. He will put his own real-world spin on this original premise: a retired elite special forces operative sees his daughter kidnapped and is told she’ll die unless he gets on a plane and kills the rival of a nasty exiled dictator. In the original, Schwarzenegger jumped off the plane before takeoff, and killed everyone involved in the kidnap plot, in a real beefcake turn that followed Terminator. Ayer’s protagonist will be less brawny, but more skilled in covert tactics and weaponry. Hopefully the new version will hang onto some of the fun spirit of the original, the first of several film collaborations between Schwarzenegger and producer Joel Silver where they blew up everything in sight. Rae Dawn Chong played the flighty flight attendant who became the commando's reluctant accomplice, Dan Hedaya played the diabolical dictator, and a young Alyssa Milano played the kidnapped daughter.

It's the second big reboot of an Arnie action film for Fox. The studio has a July 9 release date on Predators, a new chapter of a franchise launched by Predators, the 1987 Schwarzenegger classic.

Please do not make this movie. the thing that makes the original so great is it's so over the top and all the great one liners that only Arnold can deliver. So hollywood please leave classic Arnold movies alone I mean whats next a remake of The Terminator with the Rock. If you really must put the Rock in a role played by Arnold let it be Conan a role he is more suited for not Commando.

If Dwayne Johnson is doing it I say go for it!!!!!! The Rundown showed that hes is as good as an action star or even better than Arnie was IMO.

+1...I think whoever decided "Commando" needed a remake, should get grabbed by the ankle and hung upside for a good one-arm (weak arm of course) shaking from Matrix! Matrix doesn't need to "let him go" like he did to Sully, but just enough to shake some sense into the person. Good grief!!!

Yes, its sad to see another remake.

But at the same time, it makes you wonder what the Rock would be like in the movie.

Actually, if they're going to remake "Commando," maybe what they could do is just get the 'Governator' to reprise his role as Matrix and have 'The Rock' play 'Bennett'...I think the role of Bennett would be better for him...plus, considering his wrestling background, I think the chain-mail shirt and tight black leather pants would suit his personality...

Do you really think they'd remake "Terminator," especially after having just done a sequel recently?

Stay away from the cinematic classics! Just stick to remaking those boring films like 2001 and The Godfather.

Well no because Cameron wouldn't allow it, but I wouldn't be suprised if the studios have considered at some point.
For me, I believe the Terminator franchise is dead, T4 was a faliure at the box-office and on second viewing I can see why. I couldn't care less about another Terminator movie as there just insn't a need for one.
