Awhile back my driver side mirror got caught on a chain fence and left hanging off the car. My friend and I were able to puch it back in and use a liquid+dust glue to reaffix it. Held for several months, but it just fell out again. This quick fix took place far from where I live, so while I could do it again, I'd need to know what the stuff was.
I need to drive out of state this weekend. Could I get a rec regarding first another weekend fix, then a more permanent solution to implement afterwards? |

well... depending on what you are driving, you could call the junkyards and see if they will let you pull a mirror.
If regular glue isnt holding.... there is a welding cement ( silver squeeze tube) that home depot sells which is used to glue tile etc back. It is super wicked once it is dried, so it likely isnt going to go anywhere. I used it to glue slate tiles to an aquarium wall and I couldn't get those off for my life. |

It's a 2001 Taurus SE. I saw a site that offered a compatible mirror for $55. Haven't inquired at any junkyards yet but I might. There's a Home Depot right by me so I could see about welding cement. Not too expensive I trust?
Also: replacement mirrors include plates that attach to the car, right? I can put up a pic when I get home, but my mirror's plate is snapped, which is the real problem. |

Yea I would really call around, and sometimes it is cheaper to pull your own part sometimes they have them off. It should come with the plate, if it doesn't you can always try another place.
I can't imagine it would be too expensive to get it painted. and no the cement is not expensive at all. |

There is a Gorilla Glue that is designed for outdoor projects. You may want to look into that for a temp solution.
I like the junkyard idea. Depending on how much work you want/need them to do on the removal will usually dictate the final price you get quoted. As mentioned, if you do all/most of the work, you may just have to pay for the part. I did that when I was looking for an larger alternator for my car many years ago. |
