Default When, if ever, will the Lord of the Ring movies come out on BD?

I find myself salivating at what these movies could bring to the BD format. Is there any word on when these movies might be released on BD?

Also, any word on Gladiator?

All are probably post format war titles.

Wouldn't they be able to make more money by releasing to each format?

If that is the case, HD-DVD cannot die soon enough!

It's in the way. The sooner it finally dies, the sooner we all can move forwarded unimpended with the superior format of Blu-Ray.

I wish Toshiba and Microsoft's stockholders would start making some noise. You know it's just a matter of time before they do.

Popular rumor has it that maybe we'll see something like Gladiator and Master and Commander sometime in 07.

Some of these studios, like Disney, are deliberately holding out on titles like Pirates of the Caribbean because they want to put out loaded BD50 discs that also have all the "extra bells and whistles" that only the BD format has to offer.

In other words: They want to try and get as much done right the first time as they can.

I wish they could have had a few titles like that ready in time for Christmas, just to push that shock and awe over the edge, but those titles will be worth the wait!

I definitely agree...

With titles like that on a loaded BD50, people would really be able to see the BR format outshine that of HD-DVD. I did think though that Disney was planning to release Pirates 2 in 2007. I thought that they had confirmed it?

To add to that, New Line has nothing to do with Warner Brothers, so hopefully there will not be any favouritism involved.

Hopefully there won't be any. 4 hour movies definitely beg for space.

Even then I'd argue for the maximum bitrate allowed by BD 50.
