Default Receiver Help

I was looking at a new receiver capable of passing audio through HDMI. What are some choices at the lower end of the scale? I've been looking at some models from Pioneer and Denon but not sure which one is better. Some of the models I've looked at: Denon DVR 590, Denon DVR 790, Pioneer VSX 520, Pioneer VSX 820.

I was wondering would the Denon DVR 591 be the better choice overall? Any input would be great, thanks.

Id suggest you get the Denon 790, its the best receiver of them all listed. Hope that helps.

Looks like you can get a refirbished 790 from eBay for 290...comes with 1 yr warranty.

Looking at the weight and specs the Denon AVR-790 appears to be the winner but THIS Cnet review gives it a good score mostly because of its video processing. Sound quality was said to be average. This seems to be a recurring theme with lower line Denon models since I've seen other reviews also give them lower scores regarding sound quality.

I'd personally expand my options if I were you. JMO. Look at the Onkyo and Yamaha offerings as well as the Pioneer offerings in your price range. Electronics-Expo.com has been running some very good deals on last year's receivers nearly every other day. Go to dealsofamerica.com and check for coupon codes for their site. They've been clearing out Yamaha and Harman Kardon receivers for excellent prices lately.
