Default Looking for some recommendations

I will preface this by saying I have NEVER listened to Jazz in any form.

The other day while in Half Price books my wife asked if I liked Jazz. I told her that I couldn't answer that question truthfully as I have never listened to any. I then told her I would seek guidance from people that have more knowledge on the subject then I do, which brings me here. Can you folks that listen to it maybe recommend some albums for a beginner who is just looking for a starting point?

Thanks

Bill

I'm very new to jazz myself, so I can appreciate your perspective! I like the Vince Guaraldi Trio's work (the guy behind the music for the Peanuts TV specials).

Miles Davis' Kind of Blue is another important record.

There are various sub-genres in jazz, some of which you may like, some not so much. But I've not investigated them much, so I imagine people like btf1980 (?) will be able to help you a lot more than me here.

'Course, jazz is probably best enjoyed on vinyl! Some of the recent reissues are spectacular...

What Richteer said, plus add to that John Coltrane "A Love Supreme" and then also add The Dave Brubeck Quarted "Time Out" and you have the beginnings of a fine collection.

While I do not listen to jazz or have never heard any of these albums, I see a lot of people recommend "Jazz at the Pawnshop". It might be worth looking into.
