I saw Robin Hood tonight. I knew absolutely nothing going in about this film. I really enjoyed it. I didn't know that basically it was a prequel to normal Robin Hood stories. I didn't have a problem with it but it sounds like they should have marketed it as such. It may have dissuaded some of the "It wasn't a Robin Hood movie" comments.

VERY disappointed
![]() I was expecting to really like this movie....and I ended up liking not much about it. The good: Russel Crowe - He did exceptionally well. The sets/scenery/costumes/cinematography...basically the entire production aspect of the film was great. Tuck The IDEA of showing how he became the legend. The first section of the movie until he [Show spoiler] The ending battle. The bad: I didn't like the casting of the 'merry men' or King John. Really really didn't like Blanchet as Marion. I didn't like the idea of [Show spoiler] and the rest that came along with that story line. The majority of the showing of how he became the legend. And just about everything else ![]() Rating - 2/5 Edit: A lot of you guys are comparing it to Gladiator/Kingdom of Heaven. I think both blow Robin Hood away BY FAR. Even the theatrical version of Kingdom of Heaven is better. Last edited by Diesel; 05-19-2010 at 03:24 AM. |

The absolute best interpretation of the legend ever put on film. And I love every version (except that woeful BBC mess there recently), but this outdoes them all.
Perfect balance of character, action, romance, plot and humour. Matthew McFaddyen was the perfect Sheriff perfectly and Oscar Issac was great as King John, who was thankfully more complex than in the previous movies. [Show spoiler] The "Merry Men" were great (I know guys like them) and you really do get the impression that they've been together for years - just from the banter alone. Been a long time since I've been eager to go see a movie in the cinema a second time. Loved it, despite the fact in took ages to relax into it because of the incompetent staff at the cinema. I never like to complain, but I had to leave the movie twice in the first ten minutes to ask them to get the projectionist to line it up right. And was anything done. No. But I was going to miss the whole thing if I tried to get it fixed and once the movie kicked off I forgot about it. Mostly. It is the worst run cinema ever. But it's all I got. |

Diesel, your crazy man. Cray-zee.
Oscar Issac was awesome and the Merry Men were great. And ROBIN HOOD buries KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. Sure KINGDOM OF HEAVEN looks great, but Orlunu Bland just stank the whole thing up. Seriously would you want him in battle beside you? Its like choosing to follow Picard into battle instead of Captain Kirk ![]() |

I just got back from a rare afternoon alone at the movies without the kids and have to say absolutely loved this version of Robin Hood. For me a great movie all the way around and the concept of a prequel for this character / story was refreshing. Here's hoping that they team up for a second Robin Hood movie to pickup where the movie leaves off.

Voted four stars. Enjoyed and liked the movie, but it was missing "something" to make it memorable. The acting was good, the action was great, and the production was of the highest quality. However, I did not connect with it emotionally like I would have liked. Maybe if "Robin Hood" would have suffered more and been made to overcome greater personal adversity, I would have cared more for the character. I did enjoy the story as I am sure most of us are bored of the old Robin Hood and his Merry Men routine.

I voted 5 stars.
It's for me the best Robin Hood movie I have ever seen. I love how they added some of the historical events and mix Robin in between them. Truly Ridley Scott is the master at this type of stories. I found Crowe to be very good as Robin, I love how they made him into a more common man instead of a nobleman turn outlaw. Sure the idea of the Magna Carta are off by about 20 years but I tought it was a good original idea to have that included in the story. Of course everything finish with an epic battle a la Ridley Scott flavor ![]() ![]() |

So apparently some details have surfaced about another 26 minutes of additional material in the upcoming German extended cut edition. I'm curious to see (if true) what this entails.
Ridley is pretty well-known for his "Director's Cuts," but this one doesn't have that particular stamp (at least in Germany), so I'm wondering if this is just another Gladiator or Alien where it's more of an alternate cut that Ridley enjoys as a companion piece, rather than a true Director's Cut. I would've thought that after Kingdom of Heaven, Ridley would want full creative control for the theatrical cuts from now on. |
