For active and referance quality surround use only there is one obvious pick

Matrix 1, 2, or 3

They are referance level all around soundtracks as well.

I watched Wanted recently, and the audio track was extremely visceral and generally awesome-sounding.

I thought this thread was about what was the first surround sound movie. And I was thinking it was the original Die Hard movie in 1988. I remember my cousin's husband had a primitve home theater set-up then with an old 50+ inch projection SDTV with some sort of special receiver that could bring out a distinctive 4.0 surround sound from a VHS tape. I don't know how it pulled a 4.0 channel sound field from a Hi-Fi Stereo VHS tape, but it did.
