Dwayne Wade has been good but I wouldn't consider him close to being top 5 yet. Maybe when all is said and done, but he hasn't done enough yet. My list would be:
1. Michael Jordan
2. Kobe Bryant
3. Jerry West
4. George Gervin
5. Clyde Drexler

Never heard of George Gervin, maybe I should google him. I will admit while I hate Kobe, I consider him the Michael Jordan of this generation.

I am going off who I have seen and how great they are to me. Wade is the 2nd best 2-guard in my eyes talent wise and how much he odes for a team! If Miami wouldve kept him a decent cast after the title team he wouldve won more titles already. He is basically by himself down there and he does wonders with that team. Kobe is close to him but I prefer wade by a slight edge. Wait to we do small forwards, some people aint gonna like it. Haha! Got Em!!

The one knock on Jerry West is that he was never much of a winner. He played on countless top-notch Laker teams and made it to the NBA Finals 9 times. Thing is he won only one championship and lost in the Finals an amazing 6 times to Boston.

I know Boston had some great teams but one title is inexcusible.

Tell me you are kidding!!! The way it's Kobe and LeBron now, it was Gervin and Dr. J in the 70's. Anyways, I agree with Fate, even though Wade has a ring, I wouldn't quite put him up there in the top 5.

1. MJ
2. Gervin, I put him above Kobe because of his 4 MVP's. Nobody said anything about winning. But then you could make the point, he was more of a 3.
3. Magic, he played all positions
4. Kobe
5. GINOBILI!!!

West had Baylor while Russell had Havlicek, the Jones Boys [Sam and K.C.], Cousy, Sharman, Nelson, Heinsohn... Two great players against a stacked squad normally doesn't work out. The best team he had in 1969 was fragmented with a clash between Chamberlain and then coach Van Breda Kolf.

On topic...
1. Jordan
2. Bryant
3. Maravich
4. West
5. Gervin

Maravich, really? The guy was a good player but massively overrated. Reminds me of Dominique in that he scored a ton of points and never made his team much better.

Default The Pistol...

^Maravich to me was the first shooting guard that had the "flair" with his dribbling and passing. He could shoot from deep, had a great pull up J and was clever with the rock. Cat put on a show every night. He played on New Orleans teams that had no one so he had to do everything. The BEST player Jazz management could get him was Rich Kelley. Maravich was the Archie Manning of the N.B.A. playing ironically in the same city too.

Same deal in college. Maravich averaged about 45 PPG in three years at LSU and I believe LSU had an overall losing record in those years, never making the NCAA tourney.

His dad Press was the coach if I'm correct. Different situation...Maravich was THE team, offense was built around him and it was just a showcase for him as an individual prior to going pro nothing more nothing less.

Wasn't it poor grades too? Thought I read that somewhere that in those days most larger programs in the south had very high academic standards in order to keep black players off their teams. A standard that sometimes worked against them when a great white player like Maravich came along but had poor grades.

I think that was the case too. Maravich was certainly no Rhodes Scholar like Bill Bradley.

Looked it up and apparently Maravich almost went to West Virginia before deciding to play for his dad at LSU.

Though I agree mostly with your statement, I still think you have to put him ahead of Dwade, I just can't beleive people are saying Top 5 when he only has 7 years in the league. No MVP awards and he missed almost a whole year due to injury. I think he can be a Top 5 if he keeps it up but he is nowhere near Top 5 today.

Probably just has to do with how young most people are that post here. There is clearly a bias towards players still active or only recently retired. Just take a look at the best point guard all-time thread. Nobody even mentioned Bob Cousy until I did and most had never heard of him.
