Hi,
I've been using projectors since 1999 but my screen has always been a DIY version made with Black Out Cloth (BOC) from Jo Ann fabrics. Well,... today I went to a computer recycling center to buy a used video card and they had some screens. I bought a Da Lite Picture King tri-pod screen for $35. I set it up in my HT to check it out and thought it was great and better than my BOC screen. But... To use it... I have to cut the material out and dis-card the whole tripod thing and make it fixed frame. I don't have room for the tri-pod and I prefer fixed frame. (I was able to see some waves in the screen with just the tri-pod setup. I'm scared to cut into it though... I hope the project goes well. =Brian |

It's 70x something which seems more than 70.
The tripod stuff is heavy (it's da lite's picture king model with very heavy duty and difficult to manage tripod.) My current BOC screen in 72x40 roughly and I think I'll just be able to directly replace the current BOC with this screen material. |

Hi Again,
I just managed to liberate the screen from the cumbersome tripod apparatus. It was easy. Just take a few little Phillips screws out of one of the end caps and slide the screen out. So I laid it out and measured it and it's much bigger than I thought. It's 84x88. I guess next I'm going to cut it in half and try to attach it to my existing frame. I'll keep the other half for my "next" screen. Seems like it should be easy as pie... I'm just slow because I've got high hopes that it's going to be perfect. -Brian |

I finally re-made the screen today. I cut the new screen and stapled it directly over the Blackout fabric from my existing screen.
Came out ok... Felt a bit clumsy with it. Screens have to one of the easiest things to make as well as the easiest things to damage. Some new screen shots are in the gallery which I took just after re-do-ing the screen because I wanted to put them in the competition thread. |
