Default feasible to buy a DVD writer?

Dual layer (9.6GB) DVD+RW's are now in development. Discs (by Verbatim) and their corresponding drives (Sony, NEC, Pioneer, etc) should be out to market in 6 months or so. This will make true-to-the-bit accuracy in copying DVD's possible, but by the time you can buy these products, Blue light products (hopefully Blu-ray because of the higher capacities) will not be too far away. Do you think it's a good idea to belly up for a decent DVD writer or wait for Blu-ray (or even a decision on HD-DVD)?

Don't hold off on buying a DVD-recorder because of rumors about Blu-ray recorders being available soon. I've never heard about any US or European release dates mentioned by any company developing Blu-ray disc recorders yet. The predictions made in news articles are to my knowledge just speculation by the writers. If I were to come across a direct quote by a reliable source I would definitely post about it on the site. DVD-recorders have come down in price a lot lately and you can get a fast DVD-recorder at a very affordable price. I don't think you can go wrong with buying a DVD-recorder as both the recorder and the media is cheap.

P.S. I wouldn't worry about such a decision until either of the products at least has been released
