I have just received it (along with Beauty and the devil by René Clair) to make a review. The sound is in DTS HD Master Audio 1.0 and there are subtitles in english and for french impaired. Since Gaumont Collection titles are all region, I guess French Cancan will be the same (my copy is watermarked disc). From what I saw, it is beautiful. You can have the detail of this edition in french right here: http://www.ecranlarge.com/dvd-details-9787.php

Hey guys, great to hear that this is English subbed. I'm in Paris for my Honeymoon in two weeks time, and can't wait to pick this up (alongside James Gray's The Yards, out the same day). Are there any other Renoir titles available on Blu-ray yet? Many thanks.

Like Pro Bassonist said it is not subtitled in english. There is only a french subtitle for the deaf and hearing impaired. If you still want to check out the HD caps from the Blu-ray, here it is: http://www.ecranlarge.com/movie_image-list-9789-dvd.php

Thumbs up

It looks just plain gorgeous, thanks to the mighty expertise of restoration lab Éclair. I have to agree with Svet that this is the best-looking French Blu-ray of the year, at least in the classic movies category. It's definitely on par with the best efforts from Warner so far.

And like most Gaumont classics, it's dirt-cheap

Overall it looks good but sadly it's showing crushed blacks. :-(

With the expensive shipping costs of Amazon.fr it sadly isn't
Are there some alternatives on where to buy this blu?

I generally find that it's best, when importing from France, to order from Amazon.fr and simply bundle a number of titles to spread out the shipping cost, which will rise in incriments of about 2 € per DVD/BD. Note also that Amazon.fr's express shipping, which includes a tracking number (and possibly requires a signature) is only about 5 € more than the Standard shipping.

Alright, then Amazon.fr is the way to go.
I find it very curious though that I pay less shipping costs when ordering from the US than from a not too distant European country.

Are there any other must have Blu-Rays from France?
I've got French Cancan and Nosferatu in the shopping basket so far
