Thumbs up Need help with settings on my new Sony tv

Hello forum !

I need some help to calibrate my new Sony tv. It is a Sony Bravia KDL-40EX402. It's bought in Norway, and I belive the name for it on Sony's page is EX400.

I need help with turing the light sensor off (since I do not know where to find that setting)

And I want my black level set to "LOW". I have a Samsung LE40B530 in my living room and there I have a setting called "HDMI black level". I can't seem to find it in the Sony menu.

I used Monster Calibration Dvd to calibrate the tv. And I am pretty happy, but I want my black levels to be more blackish, and not grey. On the calibration dvd it seemed as if the black levels where good, but when I tried Dead Space on my xbox 360 the dark looked somewhat grey. Is this because of the game?

Anyway, these are my settings:

Picture Mode: Standard
Backlight: 5
Contrast: 67
Brightness: 64
Colour: 47
Sharpness: 57
Colour Temperature: Neutral
Noise Reduction: Off
Advanced Contrast Enhancer: Off
Auto Light Limiter: Off
Live Colour: Off

I mainly use the tv in the dark, but sometimes in daylight with curtains drawn.

Thanks in advance!

Go here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=166 and look up your TV and see what other people have offered up as settings, tips, and tricks for this TV. It will make a world of difference. Good luck.

try the website "tweaktv" and see if they have your model otherwise I'd suggest using a calibration disc or if you can afford it have it professionaly done.
good luck

Thanks for the tip, but I have already checked tweakmytv and they had none.

I will try AVS HD though: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=948496

I'd suggest using a calibration disc. Your brightness setting (which is the same as black level) seems very high. Most people I know with Sony's (myself included) have found the brightness setting to be correct at around the 50 mark (give or take a few notches). A calibration disc will really help with getting your contrast and color right as well, although the settings look to be pretty close.

One other thing, you might find it more pleasing to turn down the backlight. 5 is great during the day when the room is bright, but for dark room viewing, 2 or 3 would probably be more suitable. It'll also help with your black level.

Good luck!

I watched a blu ray last night, and my settings are noe:

Back light 5
Contrast 85
Brightness 50-55
Color: 50
Sharpness: 20

I noticed at brightness 57 the dark places in the movie would make the black lines at the top and buttom just a tad bit gray. Other than that I am pretty happy. I had the back light at 5 in the night and I thought it was pretty great, very sharp xD but I will try turning it down then.

What kind of sony tv do you have?

I want to try a calibration disc but they don't sell them in this country. Not on blu ray though. I tried the monster calibration dvd but they wanted me to set the brightness so high not to see that stupid X in the black jacket black shirt test. I ended up at 68 on brightness. So I do not trust Monster Calibration dvd no more.

The one I downloaded gave me a pretty good look and I am pretty happy now. But I want a blu ray calibration disc too

I like this tv so much and it cost me just 576.251 USD Which is really cheap here in Norway. What bothers me abit is that I cannot make a daylight settings and night settings on each hdmi.

Thanks for the replies!
