I just bought Freddy Vs. Jason and Nightmare On Elm Street from Best Buy and the receipt came out as $15 for them combined since I had reward points. I know that they were released a long time ago in Canada, but was wondering if Canada got the better release.
I just watched Freddy Vs. Jason and noticed the audio was kind of crap. The surrounds were fine, but it was fairly soft, for the most part, and many of the effects weren't as aggressive as I expected. Is the Canadian louder, but still maintaining the crisp dialogue? And what about the picture quality. I thought it was alright for the U.S. release, but haven't seen the Canadian release. As for Nightmare On Elm Street, the picture quality is pretty good and the audio was underwhelming, as well. Are the Alliance/Canadian releases better releases? I'm trying to decide if I should just give the U.S. releases to my buddy and buy the Canadian releases... Comparisons for the picture qualities and audio qualities of both releases from both countries would be very much appreciated. Last edited by blu_fan; 06-13-2010 at 06:58 AM. |

The releases that you see state side are identical to the ones that are release here in Canada.
The only exception is that we have two versions of Nightmare on Elm Street, one of which is out of print. The Out Of Print one was scrubbed with DNR, while the new one (released under New Line) is the same as the US version. I cannot quote Freddy vs. Jason though. I have the Canadian one, and despite being "movie only" I'm sure it is the same audio/video encode seen in the US. |

Typically, if the U.S. BD came out first, the Canadian disc is the same exact disc with slightly different packaging. If the Canadian Blu-ray was released before the American release, like Sin City, it is a different audio and video encode.

Chasing Amy, Freddy vs Jason, and A Nightmare on Elm Street have not been re-released in Canada and are still the movie-only releases. |

Actually all three have been. Chasing Amy, Freddy vs Jason are both re-released under Alliance and are exact duplicates of the US release. A Nightmare on Elm Street is released under New Line Cinema/Warner Bros group.

Sa-weet. Thought Alliance was going to forget about these... hopefully Fanboys follows suit.

Is it just me or did anyone else find the Freddy Vs. Jason AQ to be unusually underwhelming, whenever a jump scared happened, it was quite soft. However, the bass when Freddy jumps from the water in Laurie's dream sequence is incredible.
