Default In response to Shrek 3...

There is no doubt that the current BOGO is in response to Shrek 3 just like the first BOGO was in response to Transformers. However, while I am glad Disney and Sony did this, it was completely uneccasary. I mean look how bad Shrek is doing. The Nielsen numbers this week will be 95:5

not only parents. even over 20 do that. One of them: Me. My main reason of choosing BD: Disney. I am a collector of Disney classic, and Disney made up of 55% of my DVD collection. (100+ DVD)

Shrek the third is doing great

Unlike Blu-ray where movies like Ratatouille and Cars doesn't sell, because most players out there are PS3's and PS3 owners doesn't buy animated movies, at least thats what HD-DVD promotion group says and they are always right

Shrek will do way better at B&M then online. It will move some decent units but will be crushed by BD no doubt.

It still has a whole week...I for one am glad for another BOGO. Think of all the new PS3 owners who can pull their weight now.

Yup, most mainstream HD-DVD purchasers are not too savy, hence they bought an HD-DVD player, and like to pay more for their movies. They are not the type of people who like shopping online, regardless how much cheaper it is.

You have it backwards. Most HD DVD owners are the bargain shoppers who look for stuff at B&M stores and then go purchase it online for a cheaper price. They take pride in it, in fact. However, Shrek 3 is more into the "offline" HD DVD demographic, you know, the ones with familys and such. The 19 year old living in the basement of his moms place posting on AVS and shopping at Amazon is not the target purchaser for Shrek 3, although that type of person makes up the bulk of the HD DVD Demographic. It will move i'd GUESS ~30k or so copies when said and done, but of course will be trampled, stabbed, stoned and then wizzed on by BD for the week.

I guessed 30K-35K copies. Even though Amazon isn't entirely reliable, it does show trends in what people are purchasing. I bet Shrek the 3rd doesn't even beat out the DVD of Ratatouille for the tops spot of this weeks sales. Just think of it this way. Spider-Man 3 had better Box office than Transformers, but Transformers sold 3X as many DVDs as Spider-Man 3, because there was so many bad reviews for Spider-Man 3. Now Shrek the 3rd did way better at the box office than Ratatouille, but it reviewed poorly also. People who see a movie in the theaters and don't like it tend not to buy it on DVD. Many people may blind buy it though, but I think poor reviews will drag Shrek down like Spider-Man 3.

Quoted for the truth. I have to admit since I’ve entered the BD scene I’m totally addicted to Disney titles. Hell I love them so much I bought a copy of Ratatouille even though I live in a Region B country. *Sigh* at least it looks good with the collection.

LOL

I loved this comment....... ROFL........

The BOGO is in response to Shrek 3...

wow... after this HD DVD has nothing until the release of Bourne Ultimatum...

While we have Die Hard, Pirates and Superbad..... not to mention a BOGO on the 11th in response to Ultimatum (you know Sony will do this)

All that these BOGOs are doing is teaching me to wait on buying any catalog titles from Sony and Disney until the week of a big HD DVD release, why buy when released when I can wait a few weeks and get 2 for 1.

Any chances of a BOGO when Bourne Ultimatum comes out?

I own region A (Japan) and B (UK) PS3, and BD-RE drive, which can be changed to 5 times.

Shrek 3 was a horrid movie, and while I am format neutral the whole way, I kinda hope the movie tanks in DVD/HD DVD sales....but I'm sure it won't do that poorly.

i think shrek 3's biggest problem is that the first 2 aren't available in hi-def. i think this is a terrible decision on Paramount to not release the first 2 along with the 3rd. a lot of ppl will not buy the 3rd movie of a trilogy if they can't get teh first 2 on the same format, especially when those first 2 are imo better movies than the 3rd.

I have yet to see a commercial or ad for Shrek 3 on HD-DVD... I have seen ones for the DVD version though. Kind of funny actually, $150 mil for what?
