As a collector, I keep really good care of my discs.
Well, a friend recently returned the movies she has borrowed a while back (some of them were actually never viewed before). As I popped a movie in, it started skipping and I noticed that the disc is scratched, scuffed, and fingerprinted. ............. I bought it new and never viewed it.............. I think she borrowed it when she was over for a party and I was too busy occupied with hosting to decline her request What would you do? |

Unless it's been heavily used in the first place, then I just wouldn't lend any disc to them.
![]() If I were in a position like yours, then I would tell them to pay for 75% for a new one because they're the one who wrecked it, yet you lent it to them and it's your, so you still pay 25%. ![]() |

I only lend my stuff to people I trust..
but when I get stuck in a situation like you said you were in, or when I'm iffy about lending it to certain people, I tell them ahead of time before I hand it to them that they have to take care of it and that if something happens to it they either have to pay for it or replace it with the same item in the same condition I had lent to them. ![]() |

If you ask her to pay but she may deny the damage is her fault...so it's your words against her words...both of you can argue until the cow comes home...usually sad to say in such incident the owner is at risk. It's not nice also to ask for payment from a friend.
![]() We don't want the whole world to know we are so sensitive over a disc issue & most people don't understand collectors' feelings, so they will see us as the "unreasonable" guys. ![]() For me, in very rare cases I only lend to fellow collectors. For my relatives & friends I'd be frank: sorry, no borrowing but I'll invite them to my house to watch if they like. ![]() There was one time my cousin asked my wife to convince me to lend him a DVD. My wife told him back "Good luck to you" ![]() |

I only loan DVDs and only stuff I don't mind if they keep. However, no one has asked to borrow any for a long time.
I hate having to bother people to get my stuff back and I also had a good friend borrow and lose one of my favorite movies which was out of print and I had to replace it with the canadian version. (Can't remember if the quality of the movie was better on the US release... but whatever.) =Brian Last edited by bhampton; 06-23-2010 at 10:33 AM. |

I never have problems. When someone borrows a movie, they put on the collar. When they bring the movie back(in a timely manner) it is visually inspected. If there are any issues, they are pointed out and the individual is informed of the need to replace the disc(in a timely manner, 24-48 hours). If not...
mushroom-cloud-hb-262x300.jpg ![]() Seriously, I only loan to one or two people. Ones I know take care of them and have no issue with replacing the disc if they damage it or the case. |
