Sony Pictures Monster House 3D Blu-ray (2006) [Region Free]

I don't know if this has been posted before but it seems that Open Season and Monster House will be the next two 3D Blu-rays from Sony. They'll have the same clear case as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs as well as the same logo, banner and half transparent/pseudo-3D cover (which looks nice btw). Got this in my mailbox from Sony:

Still no live action 3D titles on the horizon except for Avatar, which doesn't even have a release date by the way.

I'm wondering if RE:A will come out in 3D before Avatar will.

Yes, it was presented in IMAX 3D actually.

I'll probably get Open Season in 3D. I didn't really enjoy Monster House all that much.

Why aren't there any live action flicks being released in Blu-Ray 3D? It seems like only family/animated flicks are getting released....

I've been making that point for six months and there is no clear cut answer other than the studios want the same money from 3D in the home as they are getting from 3D in the theater. Of course this will never happen as long as glasses are involved.

It is still very early in this wave of 3D movies. There really hasn't been many live action movies released in 3D. Avatar and Alice were really mostly animated movies IMO. Clash's 3D conversion was not well recieved. Most of the live action movies announced in 3D have not even been in theaters yet. I am unsure as to why Avatar, Clash and Alice have not been released in 3D for home theater. One theory is that the studios are planning for double dips. Another is that they are waiting for more home theater hardware to be released and purchaced by the public. Kind of a catch 22 with how they are releasing the 3D movies and hardware. I'm not sure with their logic. As for me, I'm just going to wait for a year or two to see what happens with 3D before I invest in the hardware.

Really? It's my favorite (non Pixar) CGI animated film. I don't have a 3D TV but if I did, I'd be in for Monster House!

Ya. I'm not saying that it was a terrible movie, I just didn't care for it. I'm glad you enjoyed it tho. Maybe I should watch it again.

Good news for 3D omwers. I hope that the studios are putting BIG notices on the cases informing customers that the movies will only play on 3D blu-ray players / 3D HD TVs.

Blu Titan, these will play on regular Blu-ray players and televisions, just not in 3D.

If they put such a notice on these cases, it would be a lie. All 3D movies are 2D compatable.

I think he means they should highlight the fact that to actually watch these titles in 3D, you will need compatible 3D Blu-rays / 3D HDTVs -- plus you'll need special glasses. I can see families picking these up and not having a clue why they can't see them in 3D.

Personally, I don't see this taking off. Or I should say, it's not my cup of tea. I chose to see Toy Story 3 last week in 2D, and don't feel like I missed out on anything.

You did. The short film (Night & Day) looks INCREDIBLE in 3D.

That may be what he meant, but not what he said.

I think it is smart that they are putting them in clear cases instead of blue. Hopefully that will help people differentiate.

I'll get both. Love Moster House. Will buy Open Season just because I'm excited for 3D.
