Default PS3 and non-HD TV

Good day all,

I have finally twisted a co-workers rubber arm far enough for her to buy an 80G PS3 for her boyfriend. She had to go to Futureshop as Best Buy was sold out. She was also jipped a bit on the games that it was supposed to some with so she got two different titles for $20 off the cover price. Rip-off me thinks, as it should have the original games for free. Anyways...

The sales person told her that she has to have an HD TV. I'm pretty sure you can plug this baby into any darn TV set that you want, using compatible cables. Is this sales person just f@$ckin' with her? Can she not simply use component wires until the boyfriend gets an HD TV?

Hey, while we're at it, he will need some good games. I think he's a sport guy, where I am not so much... so any good sport game suggestions would be nice. I know he's getting Madden to start out with. I think he should try COD4 and Resistance, just for kicks, even though not sport games.

Your responses are greatly appreciated.

Yeah, you can use it with regular 480i tv. That being said, it's sooooooooo much better on an HDTV

Yeah...the PS3 COMES with composite cables...and then you can buy s-video, component, or HDMI so you can do the best possible connection.

Sports games...depending on his style.

Virtua Tennis 3 is...amazing, it's one of the most beautiful games on the system in my opinion (actually does 1080p) and it's a lot of fun.

Other than that...not sure, I'm not really a sports game fan for the most part either.

I liked me some Tiger Woods.

Many PS3 owners are using it on non-HDTVs.

You can definitely hook it up to any tv. I had mine hooked up to a 27" crt for the first 4 months using the composite cables that were included.

I recommend NHL08. Ive played many hockey games in my life, and this one is lightyears ahead of them all. It actually plays like realy hockey. It makes absolutely every other game ive ever played feel like arcade hockey.

Hahaha. You guys rock. Thanks.

I have a PS3 and have been enjoying it for a year now... well, almost a year. I have a Sony 42" LCD, only 1080i, but using HDMI and component, which is why I had to ask about older tv sets. I'm sure this guy's going to have a hell of a great time with his new system come Christmas monring. And he will be ready to play everything right out of the box. Sweet.

I'll suggest all of your titles to.

Again, thank you. See you online.

It'd be a right joke if the PS3 didn't work with standard TVs, seeing how it comes standard with RCA composite cables.

Rest assured, it works fine on a standard def TV. My sister has a PS3 and no HDTV (yet). She's looking to get one at some point, but in the mean time it's keeping her kids busy.

Yes, and not just games. You can also play Blu-ray movies on SD without any trouble while waiting for an HDTV.
