I saw this posted the other day and bought. Now I'm looking at the listing again and its saying PAL format. Does that have any affect on an NTSC 1080P setup? I thought PAL meant a certain format aspect ratio?

It is not in PAL, and yes it will play fine on any Blu-ray player in the entire world.

That is a default thing that amazon uses for all the blu ray discs in the UK. The set is confirmed region free and will play on any blu ray plater just like he had said.

I think it must be the fourth time I'm posting this now, but I own this set and it plays perfectly on my region A PS3, including all the extras. There's is no PAL content on these discs, which includes the movies, extras and menus.

In fact, they are the exact same encodes as the US edition.
Amazon always puts whatever in the description, you can't go by that.

By the way, this set is great value for money

Yes, I'm actually buying it for my father for his birthday. I'm surprised that it works out to be about 1/4 the cost of the US set.

Mind the delivery estimate. The listing itself says "Usually dispatched within 2 to 4 weeks". I ordered my set Friday, and they're estimating shipping between July 13-20, and delivery between Aug. 4-10. I'm in no hurry, but if you want it in time for a b'day present, you might keep that in mind.

Yeah, there's some pretty good deals at Amazon UK. Maybe it's the currency exchange - almost a year ago it was about 2 dollars for 1 British pound, now it's 1 1/2 dollars to the pound.

It is a combination of two different factors. The Dollar is stronger than it was last year because of the financial crisis in Greece, and the lower prices the smaller European Blu-ray market will bear. The European arms of the major studios just re-use the majority of a Blu-ray from the American division, which leads them to price the sets at their marginal costs. The studios would never drop the prices that much in the U.S. so quickly, for fear of price erosion in home media.

Sounds like a reasonable explanation, but I'm not sure I buy the "the lower prices the smaller European Blu-ray market will bear". New releases are most commonly priced at 20-25 euros in France & Germany, and even with the Euro being around 20% lower than it was a year ago, that's still $25 - $30, higher than most US releases (comparing Amazon.fr & .de to Amazon.com. Most new release on Amazon.co.uk are 12 - 14 pounds, around $18-$22. And the blu-ray market is even smaller in Australia. I was looking at a couple releases there - Picnic at Hanging Rock & Y Tu Mama Tambien - which were priced around AUD$40 & 30 respectively, around 24 & 18 British pounds. Fortunately I read they're both being released in the UK July 26, at only 12 & 8 pounds each!

Just seems like UK releases are about the lowest priced, worldwide.
