Default Final Fantasy XIV Subscription Fees Revealed

Final Fantasy XIV Subscription Fees Revealed

Earlier today we got wind of Final Fantasy XIV's release date and true to their word, Square Enix revealed that the PC version will hit retailers on September 30 this year. Unfortunately, the PS3 version got pushed back to March 2011.

In a press release, Square Enix finally revealed the pricing and subscription plans for the MMO. The PC's regular edition is set for a $49.99 while the collectors edition for $74.99. The most important bit though, is the subscription fees, which is a lovely $12.99 per month. Wow, keep in mind that that's a couple of dollars cheaper than another certain MMO.

Those of you looking forward to the new adventure in Eorzea can set you calenders for September 30. Make that September 22 if you're planning on getting the collectors edition as it offers 8 days early access to the game.

I know it lists the price for the PC edition, but I assume the monthly fee will be the same for the PS3 as well.

that is such a long delay..

I wonder though if there would be cross over gameplay (playing in the same server no matter what platform your playing on)

it would be cool except for the fact that PC players get to play half a year ahead than console gamers..

XI hit PC first as well. It is MUCH better this way, trust me. There is no way the PS3 can compete with the PC version; RAM is just too abundant on PCs. Couple that with the need to stress test the servers on a MUCH larger scale than a closed beta and we're making sure the game is optimized for as good a release as possible for the PS3. Granted, this is a BIT longer a delay than I was expecting, but I knew 100% the PC version would hit first.

FFXI for PC came at the end of October, then hit PS2 in March the following year...really nothing new here, It's the same price as XI, I'll pick up 14 CE when It comes out. I've waited long enough, and I lost interest in XI once 14 was announced.

Official announcement from SE. I am kind of bummed about this. I had full intentions to get the PS3 version, but I did not know the wait between the PC version and PS3 version would be so large. The benchmark for the PC told me I do not meet minimum requirements so my plan to pick up the PC and play on lowest settings until PS3 version comes around is blown out the window.

On a side note, the announcement fails to mention the fee for additional characters (such as FF11 did). The Japanese announcement mentioned that you could have up to eight character slots, with additional character slots costing $1 (for retainers) or $3 for playable characters. I am curious how the retainer characters will work, if they are solely for storage or if you can work on crafting skills with them. I'm not overly concerned with this as in FF11 the only reason to have more than one character was for a different race, or for storing items that there was no room for.
