Help - Recomend A Region Free Player

Hey everyone,

I am finding more and more blu ray's that are region locked (primarily B) that I would like to get but can't because of the obvious, I have a region A PS3.

Can anyone recommend a good region free player that would work with my current setup? Thanks for the advice.

What is your current budget?

You can get a region-free modded Oppo(either BD-80 or 83), or you can got for a cheaper model like the Sherwood player or any number of other hardware mods.

I am willing to spend I guess $200-$300, I am assume that would be a normal price for one. I would also like to get a good brand not a low grade or knock off that could cause me issues with playback or firmware updates.

The only ones I'd recommend are the Oppo's, because from what I understand the firmware updates will continue to work with these, whereas with the others I'm unsure. That being said, the Oppo BD-80 is $389 with free shipping(in the US) from here.

There are members on here with other region-free players. Perhaps by perusing some of the old threads you will be able to ask them of their experience in regards to firmware updates and customer service.

The Oppo 80 can be found for a share less, at $374 from Amazon if that matters..........but not free shipping.....

Click where it says "4 new" from $374. Two of the sellers on the merchant list offer free shipping.

There are too many titles outside the US that I want and will probably never get released here. My best bet is getting one of these region free players. Hope they are not a hassle to operate. If I'm not mistaken, a code has to be entered every time you watch a blu from a different region?

I agree with you.. I am finding more and more Region B titles I would like to have. I would be OK with having to enter the code as long as it worked with no issues.
