Default Favorite LOTR Book vs. Movie

If you had to choose, which is your favorite Lord of the Rings book and which is your favorite movie?

Also, explain why you chose each.

(And yes, I know both Tolkien and Jackson wrote/filmed the trilogy as one novel/film respectively)

Two Towers is the best novel for me, Return of the King is the best movie. Not sure why I think 2 is the best novel but Return of the King is one of the best movies of all time and wraps up a fantastic story so well so it has to be that one.

I don't get the question. The Lord of the Rings is one book. As is the film version.

Yeah, it's all one book. Just got chopped into thirds as the publishers was worried it wouldn't sell as one big book.

So I don't really have a preference book wise as it really does feel like one long book. Movie wise I'd go with Fellowship as the best of the three. That one just has the most emotional impact for me of the three movies. The other two are great films as well though.

That's pretty witty but did you even read the OP?

Excellent thread crapping though, if I do say so myself.

The Two Towers used to be my favorite of the three films, from the Battle for Helm's Deep alone. But The Return of the King has since replaced it because, as you said, it is the impeccable conclusion to the trilogy.

The Fellowship of the Ring has to be my favorite book of the three mostly because it is where Tolkien introduces most of the world. It was probably the most difficult to read my first time through (I was ten years old) but still became my favorite, especially when I came back to it. ROTK, on the other hand, is so absorbing, you must finish it in one sitting. Almost went with it because of that.

Sorry about that.

Book: The Two Towers
Because of Faramir. His introduction always makes me want to read faster just so I can get to all his moments.

Film: The Fellowship of the Ring
Because of the way that Jackson and his fellowship completely brings us into Middle Earth.
