Newbie from Panama

Hello All,

I just wanted to say hello and thank everyone for a wonderful source
for information on "Buying", "Selling" and everything in between.

This place is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been reading for like 12 hrs on all the special deals and this new Samsung Dual unit.....I am so excited to join you guys and the awesome
world of BLU-RAY.

PLease will you guys answer a few simple questions for me?

What is usually the best site to buy low priced DVD's...Amazon, Ebay..ect.

I am so hooked on the quality of picture, I want to buy a unit TODAY. Should I wait for the Dual unit?? And If I can't is the Samsung the BEST?

I live in Panama and the discs here are $50-70 bucks never discounted.

i get the majority of my titles off amazon as well as ebay.... im in canada and gotta pay shipping but it still averages out to about under 15$ a bd when amazon is having a bogo (buy one get one free) sale.
theres always deals on ebay (lots and the such)

I just went to JR and bought 20 discs around the $12-$15 range.

Now I am heading over to Amazon and Deep Discount...I am addicted.

Can you guys answer my questions on PLAYERS in my first post.

Don't get a dual format, when HD-DVD dies next year hopefully you won't be needing a dual format player. Save the money instead and get more Blu-Ray movies I would recommend getting the Samsung BDP-1400 or the Sony S300 from Amazon.

your best bet is to try and get ahold of a ps3... the 40G should be more than enough unless your stuck on ps2 games (as 40G ps3 isnt backwards compatible). Ps3 will offer you the most flexibility and versatility (lol i sound like a commercial or a salesman) cuz it plays bds really really well and its also a gaming console... so your basically paying for two next gen systems in ONE!!! its really a goood buy.. ive never regretted mine

If you're looking for a standalone, Buy.com is selling the Samsung BD-P1400 for $339 with free shipping. That's a spectacular price for a very good player.

If you're looking for a great game console as well as a Blu-ray player, I would go with the PS3.

I got the PS3 because it is the most Future-ready player available, and I like to play video games now and then.

If you have plans to get a high-def audio reciever, then get the Samsung BD-P1400, it can bitstream all of the new audio codecs and they sound amazing!!! Whatever you do, don't bother with a dual format player, HD-DVD won't even be competition in the near future at which point nearly everything will come out on Bluray!

Agreed - definitely don't waste your money on a dual-format player, because they cost more and it's not worth bothering with HD-DVD.

The Samsung unit looks good.....the Kmart deal sounds awesome for you
guys in the states.

One more question...........where can I find those DEMO discs that they
play in the Electronic Stores...I would love to have that running in our office
overlooking the ocean.

I agree, this unit is a great deal. For the price and what you get, you can't beat it. Also, the load times are nothing.

panama, my suggestion to you is to click on the forums at the top of this page and go to Hot Deals Forums then browse through that... theres so many good links and leads to getting both hardward (a player) and media (movies). these guys here are really helpful dont hesitate to ask questions

Update from Panama.

I just went back to Amazon and bought the following items.

2 Music BR discs.

1 H.D.M.I cable.

1 Glossy PS3 remote.

Now I will wait to see where I can buy a PS3 40GB, unless you experts
can throw me a bone?

I was reading about the Kmart coupon or gift cert deal...HMMM...any thoughts?

I have many friends in the USA who can go get me the unit and ship it
to my forwarding address.

that they run on all the H.D players.
