Lately non-Japanese movies are being re-released a lot in Japan with MRSP of 2500 yen and actual prices around 2000 yen and also new releases are often cheaper than they used to be, especially from the big Hollywood studios. I think the prices are coming down because sales are probably not too good at those very high prices in the current economy. Japanese movies are still being released at rather high prices though and the smaller local studios haven't really adapted this nicer pricing strategy yet.

I just got this in the mail and it is a very nice set. You cannot tell from the pictures but the box has a smooth black finish and the lettering and artwork is in reflecting gold. Spectacular. The black amray cases also add to the great overall look of the set.
Both disc are region free. There are ABC logos on both the discs and back covers and both work in my region B PS3. They both look great to me, especially the first film after what I read about the other releases. The colors are clear and vibrant, although well-controlled and the black levels seem good. The picture is sharp but not overly so. There is a hint of fine grain and the picture looks very clean, despite the fact that there are no signs of heavy picture enhancements. I have no complaints. The Boondock Saints: The PQ is great. AVC encode with vbr running constantly at +30 Mbps. The AQ is great. The English audio track on the first movie is actually DTS-HD MA 6.1, the Japanese track is DTS-HD MA 5.1. No English subs, only Japanese. The Boondock Saints II: PQ is great although the vbr is more variable than the first. I would say that the AVC encode averages around 25 Mbps. The AQ is good on this one as well. It's got an English DTS-HD MA 5.1 track. English and Japanese subs. The rest of the specs are as listed in the first post. I have nothing to compare them to but judging by the screenshots from the Fox US release of the first film, I would say that this one looks a lot better. The picture seems more bright and clear in comparison. In my opinion Sony gave this movie the treatment that it deserves. I gather that the other Sony releases of the second film looks pretty much the same as this one. Front Cover Back Cover Highly Recommended Last edited by J-B; 05-17-2011 at 11:24 PM. |
