Default Ideas for custom DIY projects with Pics etc

Guys, I was thinking of making a Sticky called:

Quote:
Sticky: Do It Yourself Walkthrough's

...and inside will be all sorts of topics like "how to wall mount a plasma" , "How to connect in wall speaker cable" etc

And the point of this is for bluray.com members who do custom installs at home, and have them take photo's along the way for the step-by-step processes taken.

This is so other members can get a feel of how its done, and perhaps help them do it themselves if they want to get creative in the HT.

..also feel free to let me know if this is not a good idea topic worthy of interest?

Thanks guys

Yeah I am hoping someone who is recently going to be doing a DIY, that turning it into sort of a "how to" guide. Pictures of the steps taken as well as tips, and things to consider when doing something yourself...a walk through guide as you will.

Any takers just PM me with your project....

just to bump this thread, and per our pm discussion, we've had a number of good members as well who have created some amazing stuff from scratch, and hopefully, can use these pictures in the profile, towards building a thread dedicated towards it. The only problem might be, where to 'dump' these threads into, and if others are willing to 'repost' their thread.

a good example is the gramma thread, where bd has numerous postings, as well as other members too.

My only suggestion would be to not just stick to building a step by step just for this thread. I would suggest allowing the posting of links as well. Many of us have already created galleries and sections within threads where we have gone through step by step guidelines with pictures. Off the top of my head: speaker making, veneering speakers, DYI speaker cable sleeving, hanging a wall mount, DYI Anamorphic lens, Flatscreen Poster, etc... On new projects, I agree that having a specific thread for step by step is a good idea.

Ditto! I'm about to start a whole slew of DIY projects and I may need a little help here and there along the way.

So great idea about the stickied thread. I'll be sure to keep an eye on this and start posting when I start my projects. Thanks crackinhedz!

You can grab anything you want off my gallery. I've been busy as hell with work as of late, but I'm already planing some more DIY projects for when things let up.

Excellent idea, crackinhedz! Also, you should allow links to instructional videos on sites like YouTube. There are some incredibly detailed videos out there.

Seems like there is some interest in this, myself included. When can we expect a sticky for this?

Guys, I know Ive been slacking on this idea....

I will try to give it some thought and get it up and going this weekend...it will basically be a master list, or should I say link to threads created by DIY projects.

I would like to come up with particular categories, and under them link to individual threads created on that category.

So for instance, lets say:

Quote:
DIY TV Stands

...thread link...
...thread link...
...thread link...

DIY Subwoofer Risers

...thread link...
...thread link...
...thread link...

this way, anyone who makes a decent DIY walkthrough will be linked for easy viewing by those who would like to try making things themselves.

I would like anyone interested to include as much detail as possible about their project, you know, what steps you took, what mistakes you made, any little tips or tricks you stumbled upon...and most important, PICTURES of the steps taken along the way!

again, Im a slacker! I will try to get it up this weekend.

Also, you guys can come up with different categories to consider??

DIY Subwoofer Risers
DIY Speaker Stands
DIY Basement Finishing

etc

Thanks guys!

I like the idea of links being used as kind of a sub category. Some of those types of threads already exist though, so should people start new threads for their tutorials or post in existing threads?

I've already started threads (like many of us) regarding my DIY acoustic panels and my TV Stand.

I could easily add more pictures and more details...if that's wanted.

That was where I screwed up with my cabinets. I didn't take pictures while I was building them. I did sketch some killer diagrams in M$ Paint though. Next time...
