Default A Few PS3 Questions.

Hey guys, I am just under two weeks away from being able to get a PS3, and I have a few questions.

When I get the PS3 I will be buying a wireless router (preferably an N router) with it as well. However, My room is on the second floor of my house (where my computer is) and the TV I want to hook up the PS3 to is in the basement. So will a G signal be strong enough going through two floors of my house to get a good signal? Can I use a N USB adapter if I get a N router? The last thing I want to do is move my computer to the basement, or run 75 feet of Ethernet cable to my basement.

I've read on here that the PS3 does not allow bitstream audio via HDMI, is this true? I don't have the greatest audio setup, I have a home theater in a box deal. My plan was to use HMDI to my TV and use the TV's digital audio out (optical) to go to the DVD receiver. Will that work? Is doing that a good idea? Or should I just go directly from the PS3 to the DVD receiver?

I would like to hear from people who have a similar setup as I do and any suggestions that you guys may have. Thanks for the help guys!

I have a linksys wireless N router and the PS3 only accepts B and G . I tried it with wireless G and only got a 33% signal with the router on 2nd floor and PS3 in basement so i did the deed and ran a cat6 cable to the basement straight from a port on the router .
I have my HDMI for video only and ran a optical straight to my receiver and use PCM for audio i have no complaints and have had this setup since the day PS3 was released.

if you are going to be using the internet connection for the playstation to play online, you should not use wireless, if for internet only such as downloading updates, demoes, or trailers, the wireless connection will be weak, but should be strong enough to suffice, maybe at least run cable up to your 1st floor and put the wireless router there somewhere. for your audio connection you should connect the digital optical out directly from the ps3 to your receiver. if your tv plays the audio too via its own speakers, you may have to shut them off, or mute, lower volume, there can be a slight synchronization issue between hdmi and the optical out that will sound like an echo. At least that was my experience.

I have a N Access point, and my PS3 connect fine through it, (N is backwards compatible with B and G)

But my router is in the same room as my PS3. If you are dead-set that you have to have your router on the second floor and you want to use wireless you can always get a signal booster. Just be sure you encrypt it so that your neighbors 8 blocks away don't hijack your signal. Best solution (if you have the patience) is to test it out with a regular B/G router (I use a Linksys with speed boost) and if it gets a strong enough signal see how you like it. You can always get a booster later or, worst case, run a hard line ethernet connection.

I run my HDMI output to my reciever but it is only a passthrough so I use the optical out for sound. It's not ideal but it will work until I upgrade my reciever. Your idea SHOULD work but you can always run the cable direct from your PS3 to your reciever.

If you have a HTIB setup I doubt the speakers are good enough (no offense meant) to really give you the quality of sound that would make that much of a difference short term.

Just my 2c. Enjoy your new PS3.
